which language do you prefer, coldfusion or jsp?

I prefer PHP...

But, if I would have to choose between those two, I would definitively choose JSP...

definately jsp way less propietary and much more flexible

Coldfusion is awful. The worse server encapsulation I have had to use. I mean, why not just go and use VBscript it is much easier to understand (please catch the jest, meaning the if VBscript is better, then coldfusion must suck, I hope you will catch it but you were the one asking about coldfusion).

I would 100% reccommend JSP over ColdFusion and at the same time would have to 100% back up max on his reccomendation of PHP.

JSP is another language option for your server programming, but it is just far to much code overhead to justify the solution.

From what I gather, ColdFusion is one of the quickest ways to get a database application built and deployed.

The tradeoff is that it is the most inelegant language ever. It looks just like XML/HTML, so it blends right in to your pages, mixing up logic and presentation horribly. When i've worked with other people's ColdFusion apps (never built one myself), I've found simple layout errors to be very difficult to debug because of the complicated templating system.

Overall I think ColdFusion is only good for very small applications that can be quickly understood. Anything big and complicated will be impossible to debug/update after the fact, and you will quickly blow the time savings you initially made.
