I've been running a My SQL database for about a month now. I just saw this today ...

quote:
Error
MySQL said:

Too many connections

Is this something to do with my server or is it something that I may have done? Can if be fixed or does it usually fix it'self?

OK I was getting a Error 1040: MySQL Connection Failed: Too many connections

But now I am seeing

quote:
ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) 0

So I'm thinking that this is something to do with my server and not something that I can fix manually, right?

You have reached the maximum number of connections to MySQL that are allowed by your web host. And you can't do much about it (except to change web host)...

OK it seems to be all fixed now, but what exactly are these "connections"??
Someone suggested that I manually go in and cut connections, but I have no Idea what they are. Is it people viewing the database or what? Kinda like a bandwidth limit?

We have done so.

Make sure you're not using mysql_pconnect either.

IF you are your connections may be staying connected instead of letting go at the end of the script.
