Topic awaiting preservation: I need help! (Page 1 of 1)

Hello all,
I recently downloaded a PHP package which doesn't come with directions and I was hoping someone could help me set this package up on my domain. Contrary to popular belief, this would actually teach me a thing or two about the art of coding. I really need help and I really want to set this system up on my website!

Please help. I'm clueless. CSS and HTML [tables and frames] are the only two languages I know....if you would even consider them languages....I don't. I know a little bit of CGI but not enough to get me by.

My host allows PHP

Everything is set up. I recently bought my account on cyberpixels.com. A lovely little deal, I suggest this package to everyone.

As for the PHP package, I kind of want to talk to someone one on one rather than publically in this message board. Long story....

Besides, with AIM, I can explain things through pictures....yay!

Anyway, if anyone would like to help me...er..I would greatly appreciate it!

Also, I know my hosting plan is equipped with MYSQL aswell. Latest addition of PHP of course. Err...yep, that's about it.

Everything should be ready for your 'Hello World' script and then the world is your oyster

Haha, been there, done that.

I know what I am suppose to see. A huge page of PHP information. Yep, I've done that already. This package that I have requires a more advanced knowledge of the language. *shrugs* No directions, nothing. Just the site as proof that the package works.

traverse: I'm not on AIM I'm afraid (although you can dig out my ICQ number fom my profile) but I'm still not clear what help you need. The PHP is all set up, everything seems to work fine, etc. Do you need a few tweaks to get things like your index.php files working as the defaulst? We can help with that quite easily.

I downloaded a unique package, not offered anywhere else. Of course, the package includes scripts that you can find anywhere but I'd rather have this unique package instead. The webmaster created this package, and offers it for free on his downloads section. Of course, the coding is a little messed up and would probably not be the best place for a beginner to start, but I'm sure I could catch on rather quickly if someone "shows me the ropes." I do believe an index page needs to be added, actually. You kind of have the right idea. I'll talk to you over ICQ though. Thank you so much for your assistance. I appreciate it.

I assume you have been given some kind of CMS and that (for someone other than someone who just wants to plug it in and get going) is like being thrown in the deep end for a beginner. I'd suggest you start simply - check the GN tutorials (button at the bottom of the page).

Anyway I'll speak to you ICQ to deal with the specifics.
