A couple of questions: 1. Which "dribble" are you using? 2. Does it use a server side script (Perl, PHP, etc. . . ) 3. If so, are you able to use such scripts through Geocities?

May want to make sure that Geocities allows you to use server side scripting.

make sure you chmod the dribble.txt file.

He says to chmod it to 766 but 666 should work

It's not in the file it's the permissions for the file.

How did you upload the files? Most ftp clients can chmod files (try right clicking on the file in the upload window)

you shouldn't have to change anything but the CHMOD after you upload it.
What are you using as an FTP client? I would recomend SmartFTP. It's easy to use. After you uload the file, right click and the choose properties and then set it from there. Just like Bit said.

well, Bit said that 666 should work. There are no save options on the CHMOD. You should just be able to change it in the text box. Or you could do this, where the check boxes are, set them up like this:

Owner: Read, Write, Execute
Group: Read, Write
Public: Read, Write

Make sure those check boxes are checked and the text box should change for you. Other than that, there has to be something else wrong.

I tested the dribble at my house and it worked fine. Didn't really have to do much to it.

www.portland.co.uk (as mentionned in the faq, not too reliable) www.tripod.lycos.com (reliable, also with MySQL and some additional php libraries(?), but horrible javascript ads) www.coolfreepage.com (fairly reliable, single pop-up ad, but limited permissions, i.e. no writing to files on the server)

I would probably go for tripod. I had some bad reliability issues with Portland, and I currently have a site running at Tripod which uses file reading and writing extensively, so you should have no problems there. Hope that helps.

....or go for some reasonably priced hosting. You are rather pushing the envelope of what might be allowed on a free service and you'd save yourself a lot of time and effort in the end - need I say RunningWolf? Well I just have........
