Topic awaiting preservation: phpbb

does anyone have an idea how to setup the phpbb buletin board. I uploaded all the files in the same structure......but when i try to open install.php from the web..it says the page dosn't exist. Now, there is something there about changing the permission of config.php...how do i go about doiing that???

Inmates dont usualy support such things but - haveing said that you couold always go to the PHPBB website andask on there forums they have people dedicated to helping people with your problem but you could of just typed in the url incorrectly

there's a README file in the root folder, that's got pretty simple step by step instructions. I'm gonna hazard a guess and say if it says "page not found" that it's, well, not there. Check your typing on the URL and make sure you uploaded the file, when you make sure it's there, make note of where it is so you're sure to call the right address =)

to chage permissions on a fle it depends on how you are looking at the files on the server, I'm going to assume it's via a GUI based ftp client like Cute, WS or Smart. If that's the case, right click the file and look for a CHMOD option, CHMOD the file to whatever's recommended 755, 777 etc.

well people at the phpbb message board say that my host does not support phpbb... do you guys know of any that do?

any host that supports php and some kind of database should work, who are you hosted with oh ye of little forthcoming information?

JKMabry: It would depend on the host but some of the free PHP/MySQL hosts (like Portland) don't allow any discussion boards.

bareass: Is that right are you looking for a free hosting service? If not then give runningwolf a try.
