Hi, guys. How are you? I am feeling like being a lost sheep....
Please give me your thoughts about this story.

I have been studying web stuff for a while. I have done HTML, XHTML and CSS tutorial so far. And now as some of you know, I have been studying JavaScript as well.

My goal is to be able to make E-commerse web site like Amazon.

Now I am trying to make up my mind what I am going to study after JavaScript.
In my course, I have been studying Database stuff. My school has been offering me SQL class. I have being in the class for a month or two so far. SQL server called Janet has been installed into tutor's room. Currently we are accessing database to it for practice SQL. And we are using application(?) called Query Analyzer to create script.

Well, here I am a bit concerned what I am doing. Some guys here told me to learn about SQL stuff because when I code PHP, SQL let me allow to access data. So I think it is essential to learn SQL.

But what I am wondering is that if MS SQL server is suit for my purpose or not. Even I have no idea how database stuff will work with web site. Upload HTML file, PHP file, and database file?! Is that right? Where SQL goes when files are uploaded?

Hhmm.......Please help....

Hiroki: I don't think you have too much to worry about although you might be rushing things a little

Getting a good grasp of SQL will help with whatever databases you use in the future. There might be small differences in the way things are done between different DBs but essentially the skills are transferrable. With PHP/MySQL the trick is usually to make sure you've got the SQL right and everything else can flow from that.

You'll find everything will slot together as and when you need it.

Janet as in the Joint Academic NETwork? I thought that was a UK only thing......

Just to elaborate slightly, though it may not be necessary - SQL is a standardized language, while each implementation of a SQL database will have some differences in the rules that apply. So, as Emperor said, learning the language is necessary no matter what particular implementation you end up using.

I would doubt it but it would depend on what is available to you there, etc.

Many of these Asylumites found their way through the web minefield before "tutorials" or "courses" existed ... most of them (us??) who did, are still experts in what we do ... because of that, not despite it ...
