Dec 16.

Aren't you glad we aren't camping in the winter time?

It's supposed to get a lot colder tonight, but I'm going to bed and not worry about it.

I think that somewhere around -50 is where Farenheit and Centigrade tell the same temperature, for a little bit. Anyone have a good conversion formula for this? The charts don't go down to such ridiculous temperatures, heh. FWIW, when I lived back in Minnesota, we always tended to scoff at wind chill, that's not the *real* cold, just woosy showing-off cold. When the actual temp hits -25F without sissy windchill added in, that's when your cars oil turns to a solid, and your batteries stop working altogether. Now *that's* cold. (I'm sure F1 knows from personal experience what I speak of!)

Yeah wind chill is just one of those things that we use to terrorize winter tourists. -40f and -40c are both the same temp. Doesn't matter really, both mean that is't damn cold. At those true temps of -35 and cooler, Doc is right oil and gas in your car will freeze solid. The only way to thaw it (without waiting for it to warm up) is to start a charcoal fire under your car, but don't try it without proper instructions.

However when the true temp (not the wind chill) hits -40 or cooler you can blow a soap bubble, it'll freeze before it hits the ground, and when it does hit the ground it shatters. Once you see that, it blows your mind away. At -80 (which we do get every few years) you can throw boiling water into the air and that will freeze before it hits the ground also. Also at those very cool temps, you do not want to take a deep breath when you go outside, you will freeze your lungs.

As for Dan, we know he's a Canuk, and his only job is to protect the US wood supply. Around here we have fun at the expense of Canadians. Durring the hight off ice fishing season the lakes are filled with Ice Houses. It makes the lakes look like shanty towns. We tell people that those "towns" are where we keep the imigrant Canadians.

It's a blast living here in the Northland, you guys will see when August comes around. It'll be nice at that time, not too cold.

well I thought the 14" that got dumped here in Michigan on Monday night was 'fun' and being a limey I hadnt ever seen so much snow!.. the 3 inches that got dumped on Weds was still kinda fun... *but* the 7" we got over night is a right royal paini the posterior! heh.. specially as I am due to be starting a new job on the morrow.. me thinks the drive (60 miles) might not be happening! grrrrrr.... OK.. can turn off the snow now thanks!

According to the news, another inch or so will break the record for Mid Michigan December snowfall.. weather fact for you! ...

I can only presume that up your neck of the woods F1, this is still pretty lame! lol.... *goes off to dig teh car out.. again*
