Here are some of the features proposed for the PSPong.com (I'll probably forget quite a few as I'm stuffed up with a cold):

General user features:
View marked players and matches
Edit user profile

Players:
Upload images
Upload PSDs (or other image format if we branch out).
Edit player profile (match preferences, etc.)

Spectators:
Mark players
Mark matches
Add comments
Vote on matches
Organise stats to suit

General site features:
Rules
FAQs
Links to other similar sites
Acknowledgements page
Links here, GN (pixelflo??)

I'm sure I've missed loads out there but it might be enough to spark debate (I'l return when my head clears up!!). Anyway this should help clarify things and the general, player and spectator features will need careful planning server side so it would be handy to have a good idea of what we want.

Also I hope I haven't preempted the Doc on this but I thought it was important to keep the momentum going.

The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.
Don't follow his example - seek real life help first.

InI: Sorry I wasn't being specific as some of those features weren't really what would need to be taken into account for the first server side foray.

With the stats I mean that we could offer people the option of selecting if they want the 10 ten matches, the worst 5 players, etc. There are plenty of ways the stats can be sorted I was thinking that different people may want different things.

And yes I'm waiting to see what the 'voices tell me'.

InI: you're correct. most of those things are fairly easy to implement. The voting might be kind of a hazzle. but more from the design point of view. How do we want to vote, afterall?
Oh, and the PSD upload seems a bit touchy. I mean, there can always be something wrong with the zip. On the other hand, people might do stupid things, if we just let them reup the last psd for all eternity :-).

Anyway, doc, we're waiting for your word.

Last time I saw him he was wandering round muttering about demloishing the Asylum with a bulldozer so Shi may have upped his meds!!

TP: Voting should be OK once it has been decided what form it will take. I'm still in favour of one registered member one vote but do we have one vote for each player per game or one per volley or something else? I think we are going to have to offer the option of multiple uploads as the 'human factor' will always conspire with the technology in new and interesting ways!!

I should say that on that server, PHP is running in Safe Mode, so the normal file upload features won't work. FTP is still a better option.

yeah, just make all us coders unhappy, pugzly!

No, honestly, safe mode is good, since it ups the security.
But creating a ftp-login for each and every user? that sounds... like overkill, when a simple fileupload (which would be easy to implement in php) would handle the same thing.

We shall see.

edit: I just had a look in the phpmanual. seems safemode doesn't completly restrict fileuploads anymore. anyone sure of this?

You can always use the good old PERL to create file upload script...
