Things have been a little quiet in here but that is because TP and Weadah and myself have been knocking ideas around off board. Your votes on the designs have all been noted and Weadah will be working on the look soon. He may contact some of you about adapting your design or getting your input on things or something or not.

Anyway things sound exciting and interesting and are still rumbling on behind the scenes and there will be some interesting developments to look forward to. More info as we have it.

not really "in the know" with what you cats are up to but i've got a few questions.

so you're making this photoshop tennis site and all... who are your contestants going to be? i mean, is it mostly going to be people from this site or what?

while i've had fun following what's been going on in the pspong forum.. how do i phrase this without coming off like an ass... a lot of the stuff has been really "basic" at best. not really the sort of stuff i'd go out of my way to check out on a unique web site, i just see it now because i find the asylum as a whole to be interesting.

are you going to run a sort of "quality control" on people who want to be in a match, or is your site going to be more oriented towards beginners?

just some questions, enlighten me!

hooray for humans: Well that sounds like fighting talk - I do hope you've got your name down for a game!!

Well that is an interesting take on things - there will be a variety of matches open to everyone online (and we are hoping for some interest from all over). We were thinking of 3 basic types: Pool (as you see it currently played with people throwing their hats into the ring), Challenge (pick your fight put pick carefully) and Tournament (a droolfest for us spectators as the biggest and best slug it out). We haven't yet hammered out the fine details but we are going to have voting and ranking of players but it is not yet clear whether Pool matches will be allocated randomly or in a more organised way (with some nice variability thrown in to keep everyone on their toes). In fact most of what I've said isn't fixed but that seems to be the way things are heading!! I'm not saying this in any official capacity (as TP and Weadah are the closest to having official positions) but I have a reasonable grasp of the project and its goals and objectives but its still a personal view.

Remember most of these games here are played for fun.

Hope that helps somewhat - have a look through old posts and it might explain a few things about the development/gestation of this project.

Think the number one reason for going .com is to spin it off away from here thus easing the burden on the board. In doing so - setting it up in its own space - we get some options to play with - database, galleries, branding etc. and can have some fun with it too. A number of match formats and user/viewer options is another reason to note. In the forum environment our options are limited and well.... rare is the artist who doesn't enjoy seeing their work somewhere.

Initial traffic will come from here yup ? and with some promotion, linking PSPong from your homepage say, we hope to build it up from there, plus WOM (Contra perhaps) thru other networks. It?s worth saying too that we've seen a number of new folk here since pong began, some it seems came for that and stayed =)

To date, there?s been no discussion on "quality control", I feel that would defeat at least one of the goals of being involved which is to share and learn. As Emps says, there will be different match types which will cater for all levels and if not we?ll start a new one. I think if you are a Grandmaster and you?re consistently drawing artists you feel are beneath you - stop putting your name in the draw heh. If you don?t like what?s on your screen flag a different match or set of players.

The site and concept is aimed at anyone who wants to have a go. It's not serious, there are no winners or prizes and its up to the individual to find the worth in it (if any).

Hope that helps

well thanks weadah that really cleared up all the questions i had. ever consider writing technical manuals for a living? sounds like a very cool project and with the support of the folks around here i'm sure it'll do amazing.

and emperor, about those fighting words... i wouldn't mind mopping the floor with weadah sometime.
