Topic awaiting preservation: That darn BG-colour average (Page 1 of 1)

I'll post this in here, cause in the sig-area is where the trouble starts.


I've seen several different numbers for average bg-colour at the Asylum since I started hanging out here.
But I've never once seen the one I use, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm a total idiot.

When I needed the average, I looked at the souce code for an Asylum page. The different cells are HEX 240000 and 320808 according to source code.

Would'nt that make the average 280404?

Have I missed something regarding HEX colours? Something about how the colours are percieved that does suggest that the mathematical average is not the same as the perceptual average?

C'mon colour guys. Help me out here. I honestly thought I had figured this out...

Meh. I always use #2B0404. works for me.

Method:

1) take screenshot.
2)pick color 1 with eyedropper tool. make a new PS document, fill layer 1 with color 1.
3) pick color 2. Make a new layer (layer 2), fill with color 2 and set the opacity to 50%.
4) the resulting color is the average color. Use eyedropper to pick.

The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.
Don't follow his example - seek real life help first.

I knew something was flawed in my reasoning, but it's kind of embarassing that I missed out on the base16. Trigonometry an d Hex was about the only thing I was any good at in math class.
(and to think that I even missed out to RTFF. guess I really am sleep-deprived.)
