I finally figured out that I had to use a matte color when saving it, lol, looks much better now.

Okay, first of all, going bevel crazy is not a good idea. Bevels are your friends, please don't abuse them.

That being said, the circular part has 2 light sources while the rectangular part has 1. And your name looks off because the highlights on the colored letters don't look right. With that strong of a light source, they would be almost as white as the other letters, instead of lighter shades of red and blue.

Oh, and let's not forget the fact that the blue and red colors you've chosen just clash really badly here (not to mention the grayscale part).

So, take a step back, forget all about bevels and filter effects and the cool factor. I do not see any way of salvaging this sig at all, however, you have been getting better as far as your sig progression.

Keep at it, and let us see what you come up with.

Flagman - listen to silence, he's got it right.

I don't see 2 lithg sources on the circles, but aside from the everything Silence said is what I had in mind.

Remember - SIMPLIFY.

Actually, I never used bevel once, I just used a bunch of lighting effects...wanted to get mo knowledgeable in transparency (which I did) and that's why I used so much, and I wanted to play around with curves, but couldn't get it to look anthing but crappy. And the light source for the text is actually stronger than the other?!?

Ah, well, that's different then.

In that case, I'd say you did a good job getting the transparency right and you seem to have gotten a good grasp of the lighting effects filter.

As another exerecise, I'd take just your name in white, and then run the lighting effects filter with two different lights of different colors and seeing what you come up with. Also, play around with your alpha layer and try a few different effects.

One trick for really smooth transitions is to run the gaussian blur filter at smaller levels, say 8,4,2,1. One of Doc's cooler, yet subtle, tricks.

Now, once you've got all the playing around done, try to fit all that into an elegant yet simple solution, as DL said.

Coming along nicely though, just keep at it.

Well, not using the "bevel" layer effect doesn't mean that there aren't bevels....

Regardless of the method, a bevel is a bevel. And they can be pretty easy to over use.

But yes, I'd say that shows a decent grasp of how to use the filter.

what's bevel? http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=bevel

"Trust" is a dirty word that comes only from such a liar but "respect" is something I will learn...if you have faith!!

Yeah, running them on the alpha channels was what I was talking about. You want to get away from canned bevels as much as possible and try to get a very smooth curve. In fact, doing a guassian blur at 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,and 0.5 will make it even smoother. Even though you won't be able to really see a difference in the alpha channel, it will be more pronounced when you run lighting effects.

Like I said, play with different colored lights and see where you can take it. Then we'll move on to other techniques.

From what I've seen, you're just scratching the surface of Photoshop's capabilities. Just keep playing at it and you'll be able to look back on this thread and chuckle.
