Some of you may remember that I tried to make a flying dragon some time ago.

I horribly screwed up. Or maybe not, but the bottomline was that I never finsihed it.

I tried to do it again... and ended up with this.

A grid as a guidline for the flying animation...

and a texture of the dragon-to-be to paste on it.

I thought I could do some stuff with image transform, but that'd be an awful lot of work.. which basically means I'm stuck here. I know it's not a good idea to do everything in PS, so is there any way to do this in 'real' 3d? is there any program somebody can recommend?

And in case anyone's interested, this is the wing movement on a flat plane.

Edit; yes it's meant to be a dragon when (if) I finish it, but on none of the picture's there's a head on it yet. So that's why it looks like two loose wings. And Lucid Iguana, I know I should be working on your sig, but inspiration's running low right now...

This could definitely be done with POV-Ray.

It would require some learning, though. (About the scripting language.)

The point coordinates might have to be entered by hand. (They're symmetrical, so you can reduce the workload by 50%.)

The advantage is that you could create a normal map and have the lighting calculated dynamically. Optionally.

If you want to pursue this, contact me on ICQ.

Yup. What Ini said...that would work...the 'bones' for movement...and then skin them with your graphic. That should work.

You also might want to try a 'simple' vector form in Flash...animate that...and then transport that over to PS...and adapt the 'skin' graphic to each frame (a lot of work, granted, but a lot less than doing each frame pixel for pixel by hand).

I'm really interested in how you handle this...and what comes out of it. Lately, I've been getting into Miniaturization, and being able to animate them easily might be interesting...
