OK, I have very little time at the moment, with exams and the like, but this is such a good topic I felt like experimenting a bit. I might do some more work on the animation when I have more time, but for a first go at painting without the gooey stuff, I'm quite pleased. Not any specific sort of cat. End of preamble. |

I found it hard to keep the file size down. If I reduced the colours any further it looked blurred, perhaps I could reduce the image size a little more, and loose some detail? |

Taobaybee, I love your sig idea! But if you?re looking for a way to reduce the file size, I would make the chameleon?s tongue less detailed. I used to work at a pet store where we sold chameleons, and when they eat, they zap that tongue out there really fast. I?m sure you could find a web site that explains this, but I don?t think that the tongue is curled that much, either; whenever I saw them eat, it looked like it was stretching, not unfolding. So my suggestion (if you want it!) is to decrease the file size by making the tongue faster and more realistic, and therefore use fewer frames. You might even try to find a video of a chameleon eating online and use it for reference. It?s a really cool sig and, if this matters to our judge this month, it would be terrible if you lost points for file size. |

While the final judgement is in the hands of Kaboi, I personally don't think it matters whether the animal actually pertains to your name. For example, what has a chameleon got to do with Taobaybee? And does it matter? I won a sig contest a few months ago with a tongue ring image, and my name has nothing to do with jewelry or piercings; it just looked cool. |
Maniac (V) Inmate From: Washington DC |
posted 06-13-2003 03:06
Your name doesn't have to be related to the animal. That would be impossible for some people. Just make whatever you want. |

'Tis, the third generation chameleon. May not look like he has changed much but I followed Odd Cat's advice and did some "jiggery pokery" with the tongue and some other stuff and got the lil'ol' critter down to a more reasonable size. |

Taobaybee, your chameleon has evolved quite nicely. I really like the way its skin looks now. I love his little binky eyes. However, I'm seeing some kind of white blip at the bottom of the image when the tongue retracts back to the mouth. Is anyone else getting that? |

Thank you Odd Cat. Your suggestion (earlier) helped me get the size down. I am stuck with a 56K Dialup myself so I know what its like to have to wait for ages for a page to load its images. I usually have time to put the kettle on and make a "cuppa" tea, before the page has loaded |
