You may want to explicitly set the background color to white, since that's not always the default, and the images don't match up with the background otherwise.

Synax: Great work there - agree with Slime's point though.

As I said on Q I'd also like to only have that logo and corner piece so we can use CSS on the 'who we are' bit and have that header fit the page we are on (if that makes sense).

Anyway that is great

You've done excellent work in no time at all.

Oh what do people think about the rollovers? I like them but do people think they'd look good the other way around (i.e. going from flat to raised)?

Good job Synax!

It really falls apart pretty bad in NS4.7 as well, but maybe we are not worrying too much about that?

It would make my job alot easier if you guys posted some screenshots of what exactly is going wrong in these browsers so I might have some idea of what to try and fix.

Eh a login button?

While I do agree with you that it's a nice design, you should thank the one who designed it (Michael).

I haven't been nagged about a login button yet, so until one of the big boys (probably Emps) tells me a I need one, it remains buttonless.

I don't know if it's that important anyways...

I think that we can cope with pressing return when submitting a form and a login button would look less 'elegant' but if there was a general consensus that it was a good thing then we'll look at the issue.

ZOX: I think we decided not to design for older browser but as synax says could people post screenshots (it might be possible to tweak things so they don't explode so badly). The real problem would be it not working properly in Op6 or NS6/Moz5 or IE/Mac so if people spot problems there let us know asap. Thanks

I've just noticed that the search box is too big for 800x600 resolutions, so I'll fix that when I get home.

Synax: I was also thinking about putting the text inside the search box that clears when you focus on it - that way we should save some width

I'm going to take a moment to gripe.... bear with me... my poetic style has something to be desired.

The "steal design" bit has been beaten, scrunched, tattered, and battered...
The letters have been pushed together as if they never mattered.
While the section title in yellow is steady with three....
When words are two shorter.... what to do.... beats the hell outta me.
Words could be broken... syllables could be spaced...
It may not be on your mind... but soon this problem, you will face.
The splintering grey of the login and search are quite an eye sore.....
"Something needs to be done..."

but your gripe with this is unclear.
On the section title in yellow:
I'd suggest you sit tight and mellow,
We'll deal with letters in twos
so no need to get the blues.
I agree about the search box
But with a tweak of colour it rocks
So yes it needs a few tweaks
but this will take days and not weeks.
In the meanwhile,
add your comments on style
we aren't quite there but we're near.

Sorry that was awful and suddenly got a little like a limerick at the end - I apologise to all poets

Basically:

1. I have some ideas on the search box and will implement them when I make the includes.

2. The section title will have to be dealt with as it goes but as you say it is something to keep in mind.

3. I'm not sure what you mean abot the steal design business - do you mean it should be hanging down out of the constraints of the page structure as if it was part of the GUI?

[edit: OK thanks to Micahel for cofirming point 3 via ICQ - he is right there is a space in 'Ste al Design' and some of the letters look a tlittle squashed]

The steal design is typed in Tahoma, size 11, and I believe that is what the setting for whoever made that screendump in the first place. I guess the kerning I had in my file somehow disappeard though? Maybe because we have different versions of Photoshop?

So I've had a look at what Synax has done and had a fiddle to make it work in Opera (which was breaking quite badly) and while I have carved it up into includes I'd lie to people to look at this version and give me your opinion.

1. The 'recent rips' is terrible even though it was his idea (another piece of evidence in my theory that he isn't a bald military type but a crazed grandmother from Idaho - more daming facts later):

2. That the search box should always be white.

So have a look at it and let me know what you think - one other thing: Can anyone tell me where the resources link goes in Opera (the design works well in that browser except for the missing button - it may go back to the original design so have a peak at that and let me know)?

All input gratefully received - esp. testing in NS6 (I couldn't be bothered) and IE/Mac.

And I forgot to say that the recent rips box will have some extra padding but due to IE's poor implementation of the box model it goes a little funny so I'll have to add another DIV in there to get the job done.

So any thoughts?

IE 6 will implement the box model correctly with a correct doctype, and IE 5 can be tricked with Tantek's box model hack.
