what's the deal?

The deal is that we need to feed the replies back from site review into the design and see how it goes from there but I haven't had time to go through it all and hand the jobs out

Tom: Cheers its just a matter of going through the reviews and seeing what needs to be done.

Number 1 job is addressing the NS6 problems - I suspect the simplest answer would be to get rid of the positioned text and look for an alternative (as that got a mixed reception anyway).

If you want you can go through the reviews and make a list here of people's concerns and points so that we can draw up an action plan to address the problems. If not I can get around to it in the next day or so

I'll be starting the coding for the rip tracker in a week or two. I?d start sooner but my PC?s just not set up to develop PHP right this very second.

If you need a hand with the layout or anything else just let me know.

I'd also like to know what needs to be done for the client side scripting, and any other server side stuff for that matter; templates, browser detects, XML phrasing ect...

Oh and what browsers are we coding for here. Do we ~want~ to support NN4?

I think we should also re-list the people who are still working on this. I think some of them have kinda dropped out, and of the people left, well, the actual roles their playing in the project?s development seem to be rather blury to me right now. Did we ever assign a project manager?

If not then I think we need one more than ever right about now. We've lost a lot of wind from the sails and need someone to rally the troops so to speak. I'd be willing to nominate Emps or Michael for such deviously fun duties but if you guys have other things to do then I can start trying to tie up some loose ends around the place.

Emps is already doing it (slowly) - I have been slacking but will sort out what needs to be done to get the design in a finalised version (see my note above).

To answer your questions:

The includes are done, I don't think we need browser detetcion (but if we do I know this guy with a great script), the XML is in hand (the RSS will be easy enough to generate once we have some kind of news script in place), Synax is doing the client-side stuff (we just need to fix the NS6 problem - no we aren't supporting NS4).

Oh.... and I dun like the way "recent rips" looks...... but eh... that's been a problem all along.
The people who've been workin on the graphics don't know what dem dere' coders are gunna do.

How many rips are going to go in the recent rips section?
Is there a paragraph to accompany whatever recent rip is posted there?

Drac- you still got a psd to accompany that screenshot?... even if it is nothing more than some overlays and gradients?

Michael: I'm not in favour of changing the design at this stage (we can leave that for the redesign ) but if ZOX thinks it is a Good Thing then I defer to his judgement. My main concern is that things have dragged along (esp. in deciding on the design) and I want to keep things moving forwards (albeit slowly) and this would be like going back to a previous step.

PSD?...

Asking for that would imply that you think I have even a slight ammount of order in my life.

If my memory serves me well enough, I "saved for web" then closed PS and didn't bother saving the PSD at all.

Oh yah... Rip tracker... Getting there, honest. However, I'm knee deep in 3D apps at the moment, will get to it some time over the holidays though. I'm getting that PHP itch again and t'll be the first thing I scratch it with, I promise.

Well...got the next section of content in it's rough-draft stage...Educate. As Peter said 'Content is King'...and it has been a trying ordeal for me, to get this down...sorry about the long wait.

WS: No worries. What I need to do is go through the review and pick out the points we need to address and then get the relevant people to address them

[edit: and we need a news script as well - I'm just finishing off a script which we will use at the GN but I have kept it general so it can be easily slotted in here too so that should be cool.

Also I have the script which will turn the forum discussion into a RSS feed and all I need to do is modify it for phpBB - I have the database structure printed out so I should be able to do this quite quickly once things start coming together.

OK quickly going through the review:

1. We need to address the title graphics - they are currently text (with various filters and positioning on them) but I think they really need to be simplified and neatened up. My suggestion might be to go with a simpler style for them without the overlapping etc. but if the design folks think that is still a good idea then we could look into making them graphics (which ZOX was in favour of). I suspect it is the different browser interpretations of positioning that cause the trouble Veneficuz points out:

2. Could someone mock up some examples for the 'Recent Rips' area so we know what the final product will look like there?

3. Address the red search box - pos. make it a white background with black text?

4. That left area seems a little too wide for people's tastes at a lower screen resolution - as it stands it is a little tricky to make that liquid

5. Footer - this should give us some space at the bottom - we'll add copyright and Privacy policy in there.

6. More padding around the main content area.

7. Dracusis' design ideas - it is possibly too late to make major changes but if ZOX thought there were any good ideas

WS & Beekay: How is the content coming along?

A quick update - I have installed the same news script I am working on in the Asylum and things seem to be working OK. There are more tweaks I want to make but that looks to be functioning OK.

Michael stepped in, and gave me some much needed feedback on the content (and on the graphic side, too). Getting on it now.

Drac, BeeKay, and ZOX are all pretty key players in this...
if they aren't going to be around... a decision should be made to either press on without them, or suspend the project for an indefinite amount of time until they are available again.

Alrighty then. I'm have scatered time and can't manage my way out of a sock (no offence michael) so just point me at something and say "Drac, do this, now!".

Oh and about the major coding stuff for the rip tracking...
If we could just use the forum for rip reporting now and do that bit after we have something solid up and running that would be wonderfull. I'm also prepared to do other duties if we've lost some people be it designing, coding or writing; as long as it's not research.

Well, if I could get someone else to 'bounce' my text off of, I'd be all for it...
