I think this forum really needs a sticky function. couldnt be coded? My first guess is "obviously yes", but judging how many years this forum has not been with sticky threads, makes me wonder if there an illegal issue altering this forum source.
New Asylum - its being worked on quietly. We have been waiting for the Doc to have a look at progress so it has been rather stalled. I believe it could have been up and running months ago.
GN - we are putting the tutorials into the database at the moment. A bit laborious but as we are having to also move to CSS/XHTML it will take some time and browser testing. However, it is coming along - we are on the 'monsters' now (the ones that are into double figures on the page numbers) and I hope once they are done it should be an easier ride.
RR - dunno WS disappeared but he is back now so..........
PSPong - I think I owe TP a layout but there were weird problems and I have had to keep my focus on getting the GN done.
The Box - Dunno ask Wes.
And.....?
The Pixel People Project - it just seems to have petered out on the graphics stage and all the prodding and cursing didn't seem to shift it. Pity as it was an interesting idea and a lot of people would have been interested in something like that
quote:1. Its not too much fun hacking the UBB code.
Well, i have not seen the ubb source (paying for a forum makes me go mad, 'cept VBulletin), but the sticky thing is more of a matter of functionality than coolness, aesthetic or fun.
quote:2. We are moving away from UBB to the New Asylum so there is no point in doing it now.
I see. What will happend to this forum? Will be entirely archived?
EDIT:

Why not make our (i like how 'our' sounds ;P) own "make your asylumnite" script/flash/whateva, which will make easier to create a pixel person for the ps/pixel-art illiterates? May take a time, but it could be worthy, wouldnt it?

TP is your man on this but it will essentially be exported over as it is. There will be new archiving features available but the open posts will be open and the archived ones will be archived.
And it's a bastard of a job too, as the entire database of this forum is flat-file, so TP's had to write an interpreter to get it into the database...
Oh well...with a new Asylum comes new forum and post functionality too...stay tuned for more...

Alevice: it's not a matter of esthetics, but a matter of price.
I can't imagine anyone wanting to be spent a week of his life hacking the ubb to do that.
It is a bit of a mess of code.
Out of curiosity, what will be the New Asylum running? phpBB2 (as I remember Doc had a phpBB2 runnning for testing), IvisionBoard, vBulletin, or some homemade forum...
TP, I'll have to disagree with your statement about the size of security holes in phpBB2. Everything that you put on-line can be hacked, and IMHO phpBB2 is a fine piece of software...
Ther problem with phpbb2 is that it is already very well known, which means more people will be constantly any minor security hole to exploit. Same problem happens with windows. They have security holes because ppl look for them.
Krets - a chunk of the GN site *is* currently displaying the redesign - the Forum and the Links most notably. Plus the KPT section, the Locator, the Chat, and a partial working of the Tutorials and Utilities.
When you actually program big back ends to run a site, as opposed to grabbing and installing ready-made scripts, it takes a long time, and a lot of work.
Not to mention complex CSS layouts, innovative Flash scripting, and kick ass javascript admin interfaces.

max, I still believe phpbb2 is a major security risk... and a paint to keep 'secure'. Constant patching and the like... it is very far from being modular, you know.
