Yep - usually the threat of a banning works but it has been done. Usually people just get bored and wander off.

That's an interesting article, specially for those that are raising children.
Should we use some kind of violence for teaching?
Banning is a violence.
My opinion is: No, we should not.
We should teach by having conversations, explaining how things are, how we expect people to be, how civilized people usually behaves. We should be patient. We should be wise.

But then, when everything has been tried and none work, a more conservative and even biblical way is required and then a smack is necessary and the only way to go.

So banning is bad, you Mighty Mad-Sci should avoid, but if it's the only way to go, then use it.

I remember Doc actually taking care of that. It was quite a while ago. It was someone at a college. Can't remember where.
They were posting some really nasty, racial comments and stuff though.

The situation was: Some of (I think) counterfietbacon's 'friends' found out about the asylum, and decided to post some very bad shit as a joke. Generally, they went aorund trolling. Doc banned the entire IP range from the school, CFB coulkdn't get on so emailed the Doc about it, he sorted the situation out and the range was unbanned. The Doc is very much against banning, but if the situation merits it, then it will be done.

I heard that Howard Dean is really Zigot_Bahn...*aaaaaagh*

If you prefere banning McGill university IP, let's go... Maybe you should just consider I am not that bad!

and I remeber another instance, where doc banned a user for a couple of weeks, while sorting it out via mail.
I know the ban was lifted (since there's no ban in the database right now), I don't know if the user returned.
