Everything I say is a lie.

I'm lying.

Am I telling the truth, or not?

Logically speaking, the first statement can't be true; if everything you say is indeed a lie than you cannot make such a statement, and having made such a statement you have proved that you do lie at least some of the time, but you also tell the truth some of the time. The second statement has no relation to the first and may be either true or false, based on what we now know about you.

Incidentally, this reminds me of a puzzle book my parents gave me when I was young. They were logic puzzles, and involved three types of characters: polars, polees, and nexuses, which always told the truth, never told the truth, and sometimes told the truth, respectively. Each puzzle presented you with a situation in which a number of characters took turns speaking about an incident. Your job was to figure out who was which type of character, and what actually happened. I remember them being fun, and I remember writing my own. Of course, that was back when I was considered "gifted," and before society successfully dulled my intellect.

Great, you've now made me use up all my mental powers for the day. I guess I'll just go veg out.

flashtongue has the right idea. I believe it's a paradox.
