I know this will open another can of worms but hell here goes

what would you define as a rip of someone's work..

My definition would be..

Taking someone's work make very minor modifications then claiming it as your own with out crediting the original artist or even asking thier permission

why did i post this, simple after the recent episodes here with other external sites etc. I though the last place i would see this shit going on is in here...

but recently i have been seeing it happen loads the photoshop and sig areas are classix examples of this crap, and some people are actually proud of what they are doing, can someone do something about it. Hell if the asylum is going to be involved in someway in protecting peoples work, we should get our shit together first...

Good that you ask...I 'foresaw' that ripping would become a bigger and bigger problem...that's why I'm working on the ripperreport...

What is a rip? - well, that's taking and using someone elses work without permission. Period. Whether it is a small part, or the whole thing. Read http://www.whatiscopyright.org/ for the technical details. It doesn't matter if you change the thing, major or minor. It is still 'ripping'.

What is not a rip (inspired)? - That is creating, through your own hand, someone elses work, or something that is similar thereto. However, the key word here, is 'creating'. That doesn't mean 'change' the original, it means actually starting from scratch and creating...and perhaps either being influenced by someones work, or trying to re-create someone elses work with your won skills.

That's my definition.

Already saw it...and commented on it...first (in the case there), let krets first 'have his say'. After all, it's his graphic (at least, in that case).

As to the 'other' case...well, InSiDeR is causing problems all over the place...*shakes head sadly*....and despite all efforts to the contrary, seems either destined to fall or unable to learn...

A pity.

ws unfortunately it seems to happen quite a bit recently, there are other places around the asylum that have this type of stuff going on...

But more recently it is becoming more and more blatant and as nothing is really being done about it besides just pointing out of errors i fear it will be more common still.

the oly good thing is my stuff isnt good enough to be ripped yet (joke) because i know i would sure g\as hell not be so damn forgiving or complacent...

Personally speaking i think its best to wait as you said but if this stuff carry's on can individual posts within in a thread be deleted or edited? i think i have seen it done elsewhere within the assylum if so maybe that would be a solution, although i fear that in one individuals case that wont work as has already been proved. Doc if ya around wanna throw some light on this.

ps if ya need a hand with rippers report let me know,

Great...nice to hear your interested...I can use all the help I can get...it's a massive project...

I once talked to the Doc about the 'ripping' and he is aware of the problem...my suggestion was to start a ripping forum...but it is Doc's board, and he makes the descissions...

Maybe we need to 'expand' the responsibilities of the 'Mad Scientists' and/or Psychotics to also 'police' (maybe too strong of a word, correct perhaps?) such cases...

I'll get a thread going down in the basement on this...it is getting kinda wild and out-of-hand around here lately, isn't it?
