Hrrmm. A late April's joke ? j/k

No I just wanted to react about this :

It can supplement our dwindling supplies of oil.

Actually it's false, nowadays we find more oil wells that we extract it. This process is interesting nonetheless...

there was a discussion about this on /. recently

Changing World Technologies

though its quite a interesting breakthrough it doesnt help the alternative fuels industry much, billions of barrels of cheap oil can only increase our dependecy on fuel oil and worsen our environmental situation. Seems like we should be looking for alternatives to oil rather than more sources

Yes, that thought occurred to me as well. We should be moving away from burning oil rather than finding ways to perpetuate it. But it doesn't hurt to keep all our options open and I'm sure we can afford to see how these prototype plants do once they really get going. Very interesting article.

Wes: That kind of bio fuel would hardly get you out of the garage (unless you have some strange medical problem ).

Anyway ~shudder~ this is an interesting report on biofuel and the outbreak of the use of vegetable oil in cars:
www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,878122,00.html

It appears a lot of vehicles (esp. German ones) will run on vegetable oil with no problem and it would make a cleaner alternative to petrol while we try and develop alternatives.

Actually Emps, people are already doing just that, here in Germany...have you seen the prices on vegetable oil here in Germany? It's dirt cheap, in comparison to the pumps! That's because there is no additional tax on it...at least, not yet.
