As part of a series on what the world thinks of Americans (best not watched by any Yanks ) the BBC has an online poll into the greatest American. Provisional results are 'interesting':
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2985728.stm

quote:
Who is the greatest American?

Wes: I'd also like to throw in:

Charles Darwin
William Shakespear
Isanbard Kingdom Brunel
John Lennon
etc.

Its interesting that so many in the list are politicians - no cultural icons (like urmm Stallone) or great intellects (like urmm Art Bell)

It is so funny to see Homer Simpson at the top of that list. That speaks volumes about us. An animated man is one of the greatest in the country. Heh.

More frightening than the fact that homer simpson is #1 is that whoever made the list of choices even included homer simpson.

Which begs the question, what the hell is a limey doing making the list of choices in the first place??
