I just thought this an interesting bit of fluff - something light in the world of tedious and disheartening headlines. According to the BBC, the Loch Ness Monster is a myth. I suppose in a way, the headline is disheartening to believers in Nessie... However, despite the proclamation from the illustrious BBC, I am sure the legend of Nessie will endure.

I'm not a believer... but did they even consider the fact that after all these years, perhaps it's just dead?

Many who have reported sightings have described a beast similar to a plesiosaur, but experts say the most recent fossil of one dates from 65 million years ago. Loch Ness is only 10,000 years old.

i think it was something like a big snake or so.

Soon in Hollywood: Nessie Come Home

Well, it was only a matter of time before they proved those conspiracy theorists wrong. The monster does not exist. Case closed. Goodnight.

The BBC team said the only explanation for the persistence of the monster myth - and its periodic "sightings" - is that people see what they want to see.

To test this, the researchers hid a fence post beneath the surface of the loch and raised it in view of bus full of tourists.

Interviewed afterward, most said they had observed a square object, but when asked to sketch what they saw, several drew monster-shaped heads, the BBC said in a program broadcast Sunday.

so there's no nessie, just a random fence post-like object moving around that LOOKS like a monster in the loch that people keep seeing...that's reassuring...

stunning conclusion
