Seriously. It's a phone. Just call the company and tell them it got lost/stolen...

It could easily have waited until rush hour was over with...

1. Consider the phone lost and try to make the best of it.
2. Get another phone.
3. Wait outside the toilet until someone else goes in.
4. Count to 10.
5. Call the lost phone.

It's not the phone that is important.. it's the sim card with all his numbers on that may of been of value to him... he may now have lost someone special to him forever.. and I dont think he 'planned' to get his arm stuck... I would not be so hard on him..

I knew a guy who once dropped his rather expensive Nextel phone in the toilet... Apart from the dunking it gets in the toilet (whether it's a fresh bowl or not!), trying to get it cleaned off and dried out to be useable again is always gonna be a gamble... The Nextel phone never worked properly again - we had to spend $200 on a new one for him shortly after what became known as "The Powder Room Incident".

If a person doesn't know enough to have important numbers written down somewhere other than in the memory banks of their cellophone, well, they deserve to lose them once it's been dropped in the toilet. Consider it poetic irony...

Well Suho.. I have a little sympathy because I too once dropped my cell phone down a toilet.. fortunately I was not on a train and retrieved it instantly... I was a little tipsy and just popped it dripping into my pocket. A day or so later I turned it on and it worked perfectly...

.. I wonder if you can get cell phone service in Iraq? there are some big morons messing with the networks out there too I hear but they dont have a rush hour do they.. so I guess its ok...

OK, this is what I don't get: how exactly do you drop your cell phone into a toilet? I'm trying to imagine ways for this to happen that wouldn't involve idiocy (or drunkenness, as you mentioned), and I'm having a hard time coming up with any...

Well....uh..........I don't get that. I would be forced to assume that anyone "special" to him would either a) have his number or b) be in close enough physical proximity that he could see the person and get the number again.....thus saving his special relationship....

And of course he didn't intend on getting stuck. If he did, it wouldn't be so damn funny.

reached over to put some soap on his hands and knocked the phone into the toilet.

bodhi: I thought about that, I did, but I just can't see how that can happen. I even went into the bathroom and pulled my pants down several times in succession just to get an idea of the physics involved. I've owned a cell phone for years now, and during those years I've taken a good number of craps. Never once has my cell phone even come close to popping out. I've never heard of any of my friends losing their cell phones to the crapper. It just doesn't happen here. Koreans are more likely to die from exhaustion after playing computer games for four days straight than they are to drop their cell phones in the toilet.

GN: That's a bit more likely, I think, but it still seems like a stretch.

OK, now I've just got this insatiable curiosity... I've got to know how the heck someone can manage to drop their cell phone in the toilet!

Maybe Korean pants are designed differently.... hmm...

Suho: On vacation last year, I had a digital camera strapped to my belt, and I went to take a piss. Well, all the urinals were 'full,' (meaning, of course, every other one ), and so I took a stall. Well, I unbuckle my belt and off pops the camera into the toilet (in a waterproof bag luckily) which hadn't been flushed. Needless to say, that bad went through the wash LOTS of times. The camera was fine though. Probably happened like that.

Raptor: Heh, well, you know what they say--stereotypes form for a reason. I think I can get at least three different cable channels that show StarCraft (and other gaming) tournaments 24 hours a day. I've seen ads on the subway for "gaming universities" where kids go to learn how to become "professional gamers." Frightening--although I suppose an argument could be made for professional gamers along the lines of the argument for professional athletes...

cfb: Ah, hadn't thought of that one. OK, I can buy that.

I bet you were a lot more careful with the camera in the future, though.
