There are most certainly those people who do simply replace the notion of god with some other force and then seek to denounce god. That is indeed foolish.
There are also those who seek to further science (and/or education in general) for the sake of denouncing god. That is also foolish.
If the aim of learning is anything other than unbiased learning, you will never learn anything.
However, to deny what has been proven is the pinnacle of foolishness.

Pray tell me what is proven? Nothing is proven as far as many are concerned. I assume you love your parents DL-44.. Now imagine they were no longer around... and I asked you to 'prove' that you loved them.. how would you go about doing that to me despite it being a 'fact' in your own eyes and heart. It's only a fact to you. Many truths can never be proved beyond a doubt.. So all this proving and disproving seems to be a futile endeavour.
So.. the believers seem to just express their faith ... but you nonbelievers seem intent on ridicule and smashing others faith to pieces ... perhaps because you have nothing inside, no answers and are just plain empty despite what you may pretend to have inside yourselves..
95% of the worlds population believes in a higher power in some form or another so that make you part of that 5% that does not and that 5% thinks that the other 95% is sufferering from some kind of mass delusion. That is an extraordinary arrogance supreme. I don't believe you love your parents, because you cannot prove it. Show me your science now.

Uhmmm..., wheren't you just bemoaning the fact that everyone was picking on you in another thread? Perhaps you should reread your posts and wonder why it is that metaphorically poking you in the eye seems like a tolerant thing to do.
What does his mother have to do with this, and why are you so ready to go there?
Is it flamebait?
Ignorance?
Or just a preternatural ability to piss others off?

Its like arguing 500 years ago, by saying that earth is flat and there is no gravity, while trying to prove hard working scientists wrong for the sake of your religious dogma and believies.

What you seem to see as ridicule and smashing faith is what we see as debate and discussion. Why are you even here? I know that I'm here to discuss and possibly debate with people - some of whom agree with me and others who don't. I don't think that's smashing someone's faith. If you're not here to discuss topics (and that includes a variety of views) and can't take a little heat in debate, why stick around? If you post in this particular forum, then you should accept that people can and will comment on your posts. Some are going to be nice, some are going to be mean. That's just people and you really shouldn't extrapolate individual comments onto a group of people (like atheists).
As part of the 5% who don't believe in a higher power, I can assure you that I don't think most Christians are suffering from a mass delusion.

God are you just plain thick and retarded or are you trying to start a fight with me?.. I am not insulting anyone's mother so stop stirring shit... I was trying to think of one thing that he was absolutely certain of but would find it impossible to "prove" as he keeps asking for proof of a God by those that believe.. and I was trying to illustrate that some things although unprovable but may still be true. Plonkers!.... You have no idea when your being 'engineered' Yeh go work that out, seeing as you are so intent on twisting everything I say into something offensive.
Amerasu: I don't think any of you know where I'm coming from or what Im talking about.. ever. Not all coments are meant for everyone.. do I have to lable everything?

It's a public forum. If you want private discussion, take it to email or open a formal debate thread.
And if you want people to treat you well, start by doing it yourself. You just called some people here "thick" and "retarded."
Way to go!

Xpi - of course I understand your point, but unfortunately your point doesn't relate to this situation.
I'm not talking about proof of some abstract notion like love or god.
I'm talking about the plain hard every day facts that we see around us and can quanitfy and explain.
If we can't assume, for the purposes of this conversation, that such things are proven fact, then there's absolutely no point to continuing this conversation.
Now, on top of that, I have *never* asked you for proof of god. I have always stipulated that we can niether prove or disprove the existence of god based on current state of things.
{{edit -
now, if we are going to start determining how right we are simply based on the number of people who agree with us, then I'm afraid you're going to have start paying a little better attention to what you say - yo uhave very often used the exact opposite argument - that the majority is blind and stupid, and only the few are on the right track.
You can't have it both ways - either pick one, or stop using weight of numbers as your argument.

Well yeah, now that you've edited the post it may seem a little tamer but it still begs the question; What is your major malfunction?
It's strange that you would call me a retard, on the one hand it's a very ignorant insult that speaks of your own insensitivity, and on the other, it shows that you do not have a very good depth of vocabulary. This means your own intelligence is severely lacking or you yourself are just a tool to be manipulated by anyone who wants to push your buttons.
Which is it? Are you a tool? Or a moron?

Such bickering. I doubt that most of the personal insensitive remarks made against each other here are from female posters. Oh well. It must be a man thing.
Getting back to topic.
Like Bugs, I feel the bible story of creation has been misunderstood. Both stories of creation are not meant to be taken literally. Herein lies the problem throughout all of our history to the present by the masses. Both stories were meant to have a spiritual meaning. The orgins of mans beginnings in the evolutionary scientific sense is not what scriputure is trying to convey. For believers, God is the author of all science and its up to God to reveal to man its precise origin through science. Till that time comes, we just have to ponder about it. So the story of Adam/Eve, Cain & Able and the first generations are stories meant to reveal God & Gods actions thur people. I think Adam was the first mankind that God revealed to who God was. So this made Adam a human.
There could of been human looking persons out there too at the time of Adam but not considered human by God. But they had no soul. For Christ believers, Christ was the first perfect human and all mankind is to strive to emulate Christ humanity. Until we become Christlike we are lacking in our humanity in its fullest sense. For believers, each of our destiny is to be a perfected human like Adam before his fall. So this is the real message the bible is trying to convey.

And I thought we had ev***d beyond that sort of stuff here at the Asylum.
But you do have a point, it does seem like folks are going out of their way to be both offensive and offended. Maybe it's time for an online group-hug.

Thats true. I have heard lots of men bashing by women. But you guys do a good job of bashing here on the asylum. Its something that this forum can arouse so many emotions. Anger, hurt feelings and forgiveness, pride and even LOVE. I have learned a lot about the human person from this site. It is truly a learning experience.

I'm not getting into a discussion on the merits of evolution, though I have seen enough examples to be convinced of its existence...
I just want to say that "Georgia" is not "The South". I have issues with the craziness going on in the state of Georgia, but the entire "South"-east of the US is not all like that... While we are in the Bible Belt (and NC is about the buckle of it), Georgia has more and weirder conservative issues than other states in the area. Remember the thread someone posted last spring about separate high school proms? That was in Georgia... try that just about anywhere else in the Southeast and the liberals would blast you!
I can understand what this Cox woman is trying to do, but just changing the word isn't going to alleviate the problem. It's the idea of evolution that Creation Scienstists have issues with. Changing it to a 4-5 word phrase isn't going to make them any happier.
Public school curriculum should be based on proven and provable scientific facts. Evolution happens to be one of those, regardless of what you want to believe. It has been proven over and over. Anything else is just nit-picking.
If Creation Scientists don't want their children learning about evolution in school, they should home school them or create a school for Creation Scientist children to attend. This is a pointless argument that has been going on for far too long. You can't erase the fact that organisms change over time, and that adaptation occurs.
Someone else has probably said most of that above... my apologies for any redundancy... But the whole thing is just stupid. And I didn't, as a Southerner, want to be lumped into that stupidity merely by my geographical location.

Up north here, south is south The title was in jest of course, and simply plays with the popular stereotype.
No actual generalization of people in the south was intended (in fact, we may have more people up here in new england that fit that stereotype than there are down there )

I've never been a huge fan of the game... I find the delays while the officials figure out the calls to be interminable! But it was a big deal for the Charlotte franchise - so we watched. It would have been a real Cinderella story if they'd won it, but at least we've got something to shoot for next year!
All of that's an aside - didn't mean to hijack the thread!
We now send you back to your regularly scheduled debate on evolution...
