Hello All,

I am new on this forum... Can anyone please help me?

I have made some images in PhotoShop 6.01 (CMYK, 300 ppi, transparent background, saved as TIFF - the print studio can use only TIFF - with "save transparency" checked) for a Quark publication. But then, when I place those pictures into a Quark document with a colored background, they appear there all of a sudden with a white background around them (yes, picture frame color set to "None" in Quark) ... Whatever I tried... I suspect, I do something wrong in PhotoShop... If so, what is it? How can I preserve a transparent background of my PS pictures in a Quark document using TIFF format?

Lots of thanks for all and any help in advance!

Valery

PS: Please be gentle on me with PS lingo - I am an absolute novice. Thanks!

Go to Item>Modify I believe it's under "runaround" you'll find a box to select "Use Alpha Channel". select that and you should get your transparency.

jedart,

unfortunately, it did not work... The "Alpha Channel" in that Quark menu is smply grayed out... So no transparency this time around either... I still believe that I do something wrong in PhotoShop... but what it is that I do wrong, I really don't know...

Well, I'll keep trying.

Thanks all the same!

Valery

In the save box in ps there is a box to check for "save alpha channel", make sure that is checked.

Hi there Valery!

Quick question: Is TIFF with preserve background checked the only thing they can take? Sounds very strange to me....?

Normally you can solve this two ways...

1. Make a path around the object in the picture you want to place in Quark, then, in Photoshop, turn it into a clipping path. Check the settings with your printer. Save as Photoshop EPS. Then place the picture in Quark and set the picture box background to "none".

2. With some pictures its best to make the background the exact color as the one you will use in Quark. Make a clean good selection in Photoshop and place that selection on a new layer. Fill the layer below with the desired color and then save as TIFF, be sure to use the exact CMYK values. You have numerous ways to make good selections in Photoshop even with difficult areas such as hair etc. (Dont try that with the pen tool, he he)

Dont know if that will help you? I know I was very brief, let me know if you need more info!

Sincerely yours

Tommy
