I have this black and white tif-image that I mounted in
Quark Xpress and I tried to print on 3 different printers
but everyone of them came out different.

On an Epson inkjet-printer it came out slightly blue
On a Color Laserjet it came out slightly brownish, almost sepia
Only on a HP Color Inkjet it came out black and white!

Strange, huh?!?

Not really.

First thing that comes to mind is - perhaps the two that came out funny had low ink levels?

Second thing is, inks vary...and it's not uncommon for many 'black' inks to come out either blueish or brownish. Shouldn't be an issue with a good qaulity printer ink, but you never know...

The paper will make a difference too.

Gamma Gamma Gamma.

Sounds like your printers weren't set to colour manage properly...and that they were reading screen colour (RGB) tones instead of an embedded CMYK. Your file might not have been a full black in the colour profiles, or the HP might have been the only printer set with colour management and reading the profile properly.

Or, DL might be steering you juuuuust right. Ink tends to absorb, and/or bleed. The quality and tone of your ink cartridges and paper stock can make for vast differences from printer to printer.

Okay thanks! Ink levels are okay though and I used regular fibre papers
but I guess gamma needs further examination and expermentation.

I know that colors on screen almost never comes out exactly
the same on paper. Sometimes I print, adjust the colors and print again
until I get it right.

But colors and printing with good color-accuracy isn't childsplay
so I guess digging deeper would get me closer to the solution.
