Hiyas all again, just a quick question this time .

I was wondering - if im doing a 4 Page brochure say (So A3 printed both sides and folder in half), is it better to split it up into 2 x A3 files, or 4 A4 files. The reason i ask is because alot of the times brochures have pictures etc that actually go across the middle seam when you open up the flyer. I think it could make things complicated having separate A4 files, like in pagemaker you can specify 4 page folded, and it gives you two separate pages for the middle section.

Anyhow not sure the best way to do this, or whats normal practice for this kind of thing.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks all.

Well it kind of depends on the project and the software and there are times when it's better to work the spread as a single document. But I in most cases I would say the best thing to do is to create a 4 page document and let the software assemble it into spreads for you.

In PageMaker and InDesign create a new 4 page document, check facing pages and/or double sided.

You will have seperate pages but linked together via software into 2 page spreads. You should beable to span elements accros the gutter without much problem. QuarkXPress works in a similar fashion but it is called "spreads".

If you wish to print the spread or create a Spread PDF you simply select "spreads" in the options and your 2 x A3 pages will be combined into a single page.
