Hi Dufty, I'm sorry for the delay. I didn't have any free time this weekend and very little this morning so I've only done a quickie to get us started. I figured you could take this in any direction you wanted. It's pretty open.

A quick question:
This is freehand/painting yes... how about layers? 1 or many?
I'm happy either way, so your call...

No, no layers. Just stick up the JPG and I'll go from there... unless you want layers. I'm easy, Dufty - your call.

Generally, when I do a painting in Photoshop (I haven't done that many btw ), I work with layers, one for the outline I've drawn, the others mainly for the different shading colours. If you want to work it that way we can but I'm comfortable just picking up from where you left off with a JPG.

The one I stuck up this morning is just a circle with a gradient, not done by hand as I was in a bit of a rush to get out the door. I figured it would just provide us with a starting point for painting.

Got a bit swamped at work and at home this week (trying to buy a house and build access apps, whilst feedng the wee one and praying that my sanity remains intact!).

If you can bear with me for a day or two, I'll be free to go full steam ahead.

BTW - I love your return. It reminds me of 'The Flumps' (showing my age a little).

I don't remember The Flumps; was it a UK only show? Anyway, I looked it up and you're right! *grin* ...fur balls. My youngest daughter was sitting beside me as I was drawing that one so you can guess where my inspiration was coming from

Well, it's been a while, so I figure it's time for an update:

Over the last week, I've sat with the image and my Wacom, and the screen becomes a ball of confusion. I've reached the decision that this just isn't for me any longer, and I'm hanging up my pen Amerasu.

I'll still be popping into the forum, and seeing how you guys are getting along, but I have to make some major decisions about what's important in my life, and dedicate time accordingly.

Since I was 12 years old, and received my first ever -A- for homework (an ?art? project returned with the comment 'Impressionism or Expressionism?') I have always figured I'd be a practicing artist until the day I died.

Unfortunately, I have come to the realisation that I'll never have the time to dedicate fully to this way of life, nor will I ever have the head-space to get my teeth stuck deep into any truly meaty creative project, so what the heck... better to recognise this and walk away than to experience increasing frustration at not being able to follow my dreams. Besides ? I was never that good anyway, just having fun, but the fun seems to have ceased, and frustration taken over.

I just don?t have the head-space, and have instead to commit my time to such things as ?Work? *Akk* and family.

Sorry Amerasu ? for taking so long to get this to you.

No problem, Dufty! I enjoyed it while it lasted I'll be around if you get your creative juices flowing again and want to pick up on a new game. I know how the graphic phases go... get the same thing myself. Anyway, send me an email if you want another go a few months from now - just for fun
