If perchance, you did grab that first photo by ICQ and liked/have started working on, that's fine by me too, they are both photos I have taken and have not worked on yet. so either one is cool.

Hi Tao, yep I saw it and sent a message back but I guess it didn't go through. I don't mind which photo, they're both great. I didn't grab the first one but the url will be in the log so I can find it again. I'll get to something later today as I've got kids soccer - football to you anda bunch of errands today. Or you can go first if you want, start something off.

[edit] I forgot to say before how great I thought the the stone with the "symbol" on it was, it looks really good. Actually I have to admit that for a while I did not realise what it was, you did such a good job of "carving" it into the stone. How did you get it looking so realistic? Excellent work.

Forgot to add - GEtting symbol to stone consisted on plonking it on top of the statue (changed colour to match first) with a drop shadow, probably set to about 20% opacity. Then I overlayed the stone texture on top. Added a few hand done shadows and highlights. That's about it.

It's mainly the handpainted shadows that make it blend I think. I can't seem to get PS to do what I want half the time so I usually end up painting bits here and there.

That's a great technique you have used Amerasu, thank you for the explanation. I'm going to practice using that method. I am slowly getting more used to using the graphic tablet so any pearls of wisdom I can glean (like the above) are greatly appreciated. When I get a bit more adept with it I'd love a game using digital painting more.

I really dropped the ball with this. I just didn't know where to go with it anymore so this is a bit of a hack. Sorry about that Tao. Maybe in your next serve (if you want to continue), you could take it somewhere completely different.

I know what you mean though, sometimes no matter what you try, an image will only take you so far, at least for while anyway. Having said that, I'm still very happy to work with this. I'll give it a good going over, then if I completly mangle it, would you mind if I still kept this version to work on at a later time? If I do, do that, I will of course consult you if I intend to post it anywhere.

I honestly don't mind at all about the time Amerasu
I'm trying to change how I approach my serves. I find that I seem to try to get a "finished" image each serve and I'm not too sure that is a good way to go about it.
Also, when I feel a little more confident with using the tablet, I'd love to have a painting pong match with you too. After seeing how you got the "stone symbol" earlier on. I've been playing more with using the graphic pen to add that level of detail and shading to other images I'm playing with.

Great match guys! I kind of like that the image has morphed so many times. It's pretty interesting to see the changes.

I don't think your approach is wrong, Tao, just a different. I think either way is suitable. I love to see the talent in here...

I'm going through one of those unsettled periods Amerasu where I'm away from the computer for most of the week as far as I can see. Also my new(ish) monitor is playing up too flickering like mad.
Ah well, I'll try to get a reply as soon as possible.
