I recently found some great tutorials that are a part of a digital photo challenge site where Shi and I submit photos once in a while. The tutorials are written by members of the site, much like at GN.

Rule of Thirds (Composition rule)

Controlling Your Exposure

The rest of the tutorials can be found here: DP Challenge Tutorials

There is also a section where the winning photographers are invited to explain the techniques they used in creating their winning entries. There's some great information there as well.

How'd They Do That?

Take a look, there's some great stuff there.

I also used these when learning and even now at times;

ABC
agfanet has lessons and contest.
apogeephoto
Has lessons, contest and a online magazine.
NYI
ACD

My list is endless so I'll stop with these.

thanks shi - some really good stuff! i especially like the AGFA one.

just a word of caution to potential readers though - the ABC page, whilst having some good tips, seems to be very rushed, and not always accurate.

mini example:

quote:
Slow shutter speeds need small apertures.
Fast Shutter speeds need small apertures.

...is just enough to lead noobs like me astray. (not only the fact that one of the two are wrong, but also the words aren't carefully chosed - by "smaller" do they mean they F setting, or the apeture hole?)
