Im sorry to go tough on you like this, but I really wanna learn how to make good pictures of
droplets landing into a pool of liquid.
You all know what Im talking about (I hope), so let's see some droplets. The problem with this topic is that the only way you get these pictures is if you actually devote the time to doing just that, in other words you cannot get such a shot while going to work or camping. I hope some of you will be motivated and present some quality work (because I know we can do it !). This also gives me a reason to get off my lazy bum and practice photographing droplets.

Also, it would be nice if someone posted tutorials on how to achieve the desired effect.

We all know the usual rules (this is week 40) so I'll skip them. Only want to make one change:

New Rule: Since (Im pretty sure) none of us are professionals at this particular practice, comments about what makes that particular image good or bad are welcome. If you don't want your work to be critiqued - state so explicitly.

And I guess just droplets would make it kind of cliche, so lets expand the topic to all pretty water (or any other liquid) effects, but concentrate on droplets

oops. Just noticed that krets put 49 instead of 39 on his topic, and I incremented his by one. So if its possible, someone please change the name of the thread - cuz I cant.

I do a lot of water drop photos. The way I do mine is pretty simple. I put something in the bottom of the bathroom sink, say colorful beads like in my posted photo or a plastic flag...whatever you want. Then fill the sink about 1/2 way up with water and let the faucet drip at a rate of 1 drop every second. I use macro mode and flash. The flash helps stop the action. I also use a Fstop of about 2.8 which also allows for faster shutter speed to stop the action.

Like Shi, I use an F-stop of around 2.8. I also used my desk lamp as the light source and then I bounced my flash off a big sheet of strategically placed white paper. I took about 200 photos to get about 10 that I really liked. Most of those were spent practicing my timing.

After a while I gave up on using drops of milk and started throwing frozen peas. Those really created some interesting shapes.

And I have come up with something....

Took about 300 pics, and got about 17 decent ones - pretty good ratio, if u ask me : )
Here's how I did it: Used Shi's technique of filling the sink and leaving faucet dripping. Tuned on all available light sources in the bathroom, and used flash at 1/500 shutter speed and f8 aperture. Manual focus worked better than auto.

edit:
This and this also go along with the topic. Something I shot a little while ago.

Great shots and perseverance asptamer well done. I haven't been able to crack it yet with my auto focus.

I was hoping Bugimus would come up with something since he was so greatful for this thread : )
So I think I'll give him till Sunday night, and then will pass the privelege to the next enthusiast. I think 2 weeks is about enough time for a topic like this one.
