..hopefully.

The health activists, and "government agancies" Have one year to re-write the declared "unconstitutional" law against marijuana. They have to make it, so that people can use it legally for medicinal use. hehehe, good thing I have Dan venne syndrom. (nobody cares that I made that up <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif"> )

Oh well, good things can happen!

Don't jump too high yet Dan.

The legalization of marijuana in Canada will only be processed, if the government can find a viable method of taxation on the growing, harvesting, and distribution of high THC hemp.

So far the only way to do this is through legalization as a prescription medication. Sounds nice...but read on.

As Marijuana would still be considered an illicit narcotic, just of a pharmaceutical label, instead of a legal one, it would be governed the same way as Morphine.

Now..what happens to Doctors who own morphine? Nothing. Patients with terminal diseases who require it for pain medication? Legal in a capsulated or regulated liquid format.

BUT, what' happens to Bill the junkie if he's caught with a vial of M? He gets to ride the blue and white car to the Remand Centre. Posession of a "controlled" substance. If he's got enough, why that's Posession for the intent of trafficking.

See, the Morphine may be "legal" but it's still a regulated substance.

So...smoke a joint (which will be illegal all around since medicinal marijuana is regulated into controlled pill form dosages)...get caught....go to jail.

It's still the way of the world my friend...at least this Canuck section of the world.

Peter

i don't mean this to sound all "america is the best" or whatever... but i also was thinking this--our states are still fighting the "war" on drugs and there's so much invested in it right now that i find it hard to believe that the states would allow something like the legalization of marijuana in canada. just out of fear and everything, so to counter this wouldn't the states all of a sudden throw unfair trade restrictions on canada? i dunno.. we do similar things to our own states when the government doesn't like what they're doing.. just a thought.

oh yeah, and i promised myself yesterday that i'd quit smoking pot for a month. so far i've held out a whole two days, woohoo!

Actually there are a few Commisions and studies going on in the States right now, most of which are coming to the conclusion that "War On Drugs" and all the money that's been thrown at it (Gotta Love GB Sr.) is failing quite grandly (Quite in evidence when I used to live outside Seattle....hehe)

More and more proponents are looking into alternative measures to the ludicrous actions and penalties enforced there at the moment.

As far as trade embargoes...I'm seriously doubting it, after all, when was the last embargo against The Netherlands that you recall?

Unless the States tries to play Big Brother to it's closest neighbour again...which would look more than a little poor and pathetic in the eyes of the global community.

I think I only find hilarity in knowing how many narcotics actually come up here from the Southern border as opposed to the opposite direction....heh. Though I do applaud the "War On Drugs"..after all, it makes a fine facade to flash across the screen for avoidance of other issues.

All in all I doubt the legalization will pass in the way that people are supposing anyway...and even if it does..it'll be a molehill from this mountain of speculation.

Actually.. if the people in Ontario, who are dealing with this issue.. do not re-write the laws, to make pot legal to people with chronic illnesses, in the next 12 months. The law prohibiting the use of marijuana will be banished, leaving pot completely legal in Canada's largest province. That will quickly spread throughout the rest of the nation.
