Follow the link to the "Main Menu".

I get SO tired of this, all I ask is for folks to keep my copyright intact, they can't even manage that! Shit, c*****n, this just ***, I tell you.

Hey Doc, that does suck, big time...

Yikes, "haunting" songs, don't think they will get to far...

Look at the bright side though, they are in Santa Cruz, and hell that is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from me. Not a very big place either, could probably track them down pretty easily.

So what action would you like to be taken? It is up to you.....It is a beach town so they could be buried in the sand during high tide...just an idea...

Are you going to flood them with e-mail? My send button is ready...

(for legal purposes, this is just a joke, I am no more psycho than anyone else in this "asylum" we call a world)

This is the problem with web design.....its to tempting to take . Thats why im moving towards flash files. But on the other hand Doc you could look into a server software called HTML/OS which is a cgi engine server side that does dynamic sites and all the code is hidden in templates check it out..........might be a good way to secure your work ....Cyber.

Looks like the designer of this one, though, is more likely to give in to emails about it... judging from the quality of the site, at least, they seem like they would have less confidence than that korean one. Hah - can you really tell that much about someone from their web site? We'll find out...

Have you contacted them yet, Doc? What's their response?

Doc, that sucks I too am just a skip from Santa Cruz but I don't think it would make a difference, I doubt these two know that the design is a rip-off (but they might be interested if they paid for it).

BTW Cyber that software is for Dynamic content I believe, not DHTML. so it won't hide HTML, there will never be a true way to hide HTML, as long as it needs to be read by the browser it will always be visible, only plug-in technologies will be able to hide code. Along that note, there is a prog out there that will let you rip compliled flash(.swf) files into .fla files so you can copy work.

Heh. I just heard from one *very* confused musician, he didn't quite understand the fuss, he had a firend design his site, thought it was cool, and forgot about it. I actually believed him, he understood copyright violations real well and seemed genuinely concerned. He's going to talk to his buddy (and hopefully give him some heavy shit for putting him into this predicament!) I'm going to lie low for a few days on this one, give him a chance to fix things up. If I don't hear from him by weeks end, we can discuss possible scenarios with rope and mailbombs and stuff. ;-)

Fixed! I got the impression we were dealing with good people there. Musicians are generally a good lot, used to dealing with issues much like our own, methinks. I almost feel a little bad now, maybe I should design them a new entry page? :-)

Gees, that would be pretty cool Doc. Mighty generous of you to even consider. I am sure that they would appreciate it a lot, hell who wouldn't. That is if you can it it into your busy busy schedule. It sure is hassle to deal woth this kind of stuff, but when you encounter someone willing to deal with the problem immediately, it almost doesn't matter. Good to know that not everyone is a thief, there are just plain naive people out there too that just don't know the rules yet.

I withdraw my above statement......

aaahhhh.... bahahaha, sorry.

i dunno doc, their new site looks pretty sharp if you ask me. *sigh*

i'd almost feel bad enough and let them use your design, just make sure they have a link back to you and proclaim their love for you in a song or two... or not.

Hey, talking about window resize, has anyone here ever used Macromedia Dreamweaver 3.0? 'Cause it actually has an automatic javascript thingy in it that you can tell it to add to your page that solves that problem of windows contents going weird in NS when you resize the window. It contains a severe coolness factor.

Not that I have anything worth copywritting, but if I did, how would I go about it? To be honest I just think the little copywrite notice on the bottom of the screen is nifty and want it to be legit!

Doc can you give me a little insite on how I can go about this?

Thanks,

Basically, any work created by you recorded in a permanent format (type, audio recording, sketch on a napkin) is automatically protected under copyright law. Registering your work with the U.S. Copyright Office does provide you with better legal security, but is not necessary to own copying rights. Here are a couple of links to get you started...

http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/
http://www.ifla.org/documents/infopol/copyright/temple.htm

Incidentally, I would like to take this opportunity to say there is no such word as "copywritten." I see this too many places. You do not "write a copy," you have "rights regarding copying."

OK, rant over. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">
