I am so freaking exhausted! Get up at 8:00, drive 45 minutes to work, work on sites all day, drive 45 minutes home, eat, clean up, get on another computer and try to write, end up going to bed at midnight, repeat... And the weekends are no time to rest. Have to spend all day catching up on the things I wasn't able to do all week, but never seem to actually catch up.

Anybody know any advanced sleeping techniques?

I would attempt to work at home, or at least see if it is possible. It should take a lot of stress out of your life. It seems as if you have to much on your mind to allow yourself to get any rest. You may want to try some form of relaxation techniques, meditation etc.

I am fortunate enough to be able to work at home, yet I get anywhere from 2 to 6 hours of sleep a night. But I am very comfortable with it that way. I am very serious in the studies of yoga. I started to get interested about 2 years ago, and have studied it to various degrees ever since. The mind and body are amazing things, that we still do not completely understand. To learn to control your mind and body's reaction in most every aspects of your life is a true talent.

Although this may seem useless or weird to most, it has helped me a great deal. It takes a lot of time and dicipline in the beginning, but over time (like anything else) you perfect it.

Well, I have a lot of experience with some rather bizarre sleeping/waking issues. For years I would work killer time schedules like you describe, and then Saturday I would sleep somewhat late, (10:30 or so), and then take care of shopping chores that couldn't be handled otherwise. Then a saturday all-nighter, frequently into sunday morning, still up for breakfast, wander around town in a daze, work on my web, piddle around till maybe 1:00-2:00, and then to bed early afternoon to sleep for 15 hours or so, surprise, it's monday morning!

Not the healthiest schedule, is it? Still, that describes some of my most productive periods of my life right there, go figger.

hey, wez!

sorry again for sending you the same file 31 times! i couldnt for the life of me figure out why it didnt leave my outbox...it just sat there and i kept clicking send...send...send...
if you install it and when your done, copy that "registration" exe file to the root directory of where you installed after effects, then run that file from that location, that'll take care of the it.

as for never having enough time for anything, i can relate to that! i was totally burnt out, waking up in the middle of he night thinking i overslept and people were waiting for me...i had a constant feeling of forgetting important stuff and failing to keep deadlines... watch out, it all started with feeling like you do and a year and a half down the line it's hard to get back that enthusiasm and love for what youre doing...

the remedy? i donno, i finally had to take a month of leave of absense and right now i managed to work it out by instead of a raise i work only 4 days...

Whoa, thanks everyone for your ideas. Working for myself has crossed my mind more than a couple times, but my problem is that I'm just an idiot at business and am certainly no salesman. When I move back to Texas in a couple months I think I'm going to give it a shot, but I need to figure out exactly how I can bring in potential clients. What do you think? Where do you guys find clients? I'm sure word of mouth does a lot, but how do you start the word of mouth?

Hi Wes,
I can relate to being not so great where business is concerned, not very practical I admit, I'm interested in this topic because I've thought about starting my business on the Internet and feel more than a little overwelmed about making a site that people will want to hit over and over again, ambitious? Yes!
A year ago I was scared of computers !!!
Now I have a web page (done with Netscape page composer) uploaded to my site!!!
Not very creative, but I think this first attempt serves for me to gain confidence, today I just started learning html.
OOOOOOOOPS! O.K. I wandered off!
I think that this forum would be a good starting point if Doc agrees.
BTW nice to meet you!

You too, freya, welcome to the forum. Yes, it can be quite exciting when you realize people are really starting to frequent your site. When Yahoo featured my site on its Sites of the Week list a few weeks ago, my traffic skyrocketed. Weird feeling knowing that many people were seeing what I had done. Now the trick is keeping them coming back.

I'm used to building corporate sites here at my 9-5 that get their share of traffic. But, it really isn't the same when it isn't entirely from your own mind. I've kind of gotten used to people seeing that stuff. I guess because if people don't like it, I can just blame it on the clients' bad choices.

Wes,
I would imagine it's not as exciting if it's not your "baby". I started making dolls that for lack of a better term I would call "gothick" because what I have in mind are dolls with more edge to them sort of like a crossover between human and "alien" (not like the Alien creature,
dear lord!) So like I said I am ambitious and consider myself as an artist and I'm trying to come up with pages that complements my idea about dolls, I've made a lot of research on the internet for clip art sort of magickal or fantasy or gothick, but I'm not comming up with much other than H.R.Geiger's prints!!!! I admire his work and on a certain level I get inspiration from him though I seek to show a more sensual yet horrifying look without getting campy or cheesewhiz cheezy.
All this to say that I'm in the position of having to create a good part of my designs and just realized there's far more to it than first met the eyes, fortunately I'm having a ball at the prospect of learning how to use photoshop so the whole never ending project (because it never seems to end just when you learn something, other things come to the surface) is quite stimulating.
BTW do you know some mistical, fantasy, clip art good for backgrounds (I'm looking for a pic with the full moon so I can create a mirror effect of the moon on a lake!!!)

We are all Gods and Goddesses!
If that was meant as a compliment, why thank you!
She's one of my favorite aspects of the goddess, I've recognized the value of cultivating certain aspects of this archetype within my personnality, I find that it cultivates the warrior (peace) within me, to assume responsibility for my life and to remind myself on a daily basis that there are no victims but volunteers!!! It whidens the vision of true WILL and asuming one's freedom!

This will get some getting used to. But you're right I will ask the creator, of course!
I feel overwhelmed and ignorant whenever I look at a creation, I have to overcome the desire "I want it done NOW or YESTERDAY" and focus on loving the process of it instead of lusting for results!!!

On a different subject, I got a copy of Photoshop from a friend but I don't have a book obviously!
I don't have a clue how it works, I can't Edit a pic right now, so what can I do to get familiar with it?
Any suggestions on where I might want to start to get a feel of the program so that when I get an answer from Peter (that's the guy's name who did the moon pic) I'll be a little bit more knowledgeable on how to play with it!!!

Ok, well, thw first thing you want to do is get aquianted with the tool bar. Everything on it is pretty obvious once you get started.
On some of the icons, you can drag the mouse to the right (after you click) and get more options. You should learn when to use CTRL or ALT or SHIFT with a command. And you're gonna wanna learn to use layers properly.

The first thing I would do is learn to make a new layer (on the menu bar click window > show layers.) then click on the arrow on the layers box which is pointing right, and click new layer. After that, use the Circular Marquee tool (top left on tool bar, hold and drag to find circle) and hold down shift to make a perfect circle. Then select a foregroud color, by clicking on it, hit ok. Then simply hold down alt, and press backspace. Now you have a colored circle, and you should be learning what some of the tools do.

The rest is trial and error, but I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

Actually Wes, working for yourself really depends on your motivation I would think. Dont listen to me Im a spoiled brat who's never had a job but I would think without a boss you would be free to do whatever you wanted and that means choosing to sleep or finish your work. I guess your work must be stressfull if its causing you not to sleep and you wouldnt want to quit your job only to find out that you dont perform well on your own. Think back to highschool or college... were you one of those kids that waited till the last minute with assignments or stayed home Friday nights and did them? Im serious, you dont want to lose a good job. And about the sleeping problems, well I have a sleeping disorder, basically I dont sleep for nights at a time. One time when i was younger I stayed up 6 days. The only thing is I dont get tired at all. Ive always been comfortable staying up all night and possibly getting an hour sleep (at most) after school when the rest of my friends are doing homework, see I am one of those kids who did homework right before class ... I could never work for myself! Goto the doctor if you cant sleep.
