I'd love to learn to texture. I have built a purely non-atmospheric space-craft, called the Eberwether, and I have little to no idea how to texture it, but just to prove to you that I wasn't crapping on about me being able to 3D model, here's a screen shot.

Or even photoshop (if you don't wanna animate it).
What did you make that in though? I can explain how to add textures in 3d Studio Max, but not lightwave or softimage(yet).

Maybe you could convert the mesh into 3d Studio Max (if it isn't already) and textures would be easy to add <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Best free suggestion I can give is to check out the Mastering 3D Graphics site and look in the free stuff section and read the HTML tutorials on surfacing from the first two issues of Serious3D magazine. If you're wanting to drop a bit of cash I'd highly recommend Bill Fleming's 3D Photorealism Toolkit and Advanced 3D Photorealism Techniques for lots of great info on lighting and surfacing. Hope that helps...

I'm using Lightwave 5.0, but I do have 3D Studio MAX R3 and a free thrid party plugin to allow you to import .LWO files into MAX.

Im don't know much about lightwave, but Im going to assume that the mesh is already cut up nicely into how you wanna texture it.
So import that beutiful mesh into 3dsmax, click on the hammer tab (utilities) then click on asset manager. Go to the folder with your textures in it, and wait, it may take a few moments, maybe even many, before it loads. Now, simply drag the texture file onto the mesh peice that you want to have that texture. Easy!

Btw, you don't have to wait for the thumbnails to load, you can drag the empty boxes onto the mesh, and it will still work.

LightWave is quite capable of texturing without having to worry about importing into something else, just define your surfaces in Modeler then bring your objects into Layout and modify your surface properties. If you want to ask something a bit more specific I can try to help, "how to texture?" is kind of a broad question <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">
