Ok here it goes. I'm new to the web page making and I read helping pages. And I'm still not getting it. Sould I do HTML or go to a program that does the HTML for me? And I learn stuff pretty fast to.

Thank you for your time sir.

Oh dear god whatever you do don't get a program to write pages for you! HTML is a very simple language to learn the basics of. Some things can get a bit complicated of course, but overall it is not very difficult. Start with visiting some good resource pages, like these:
http://www.projectcool.com/ (avoid the IE only stuff though)
shoot, can't remember URL's now.....look through this forum in the Gurus Network area for a post titled "Care to recommend some links?" and you'll find the best resources available to you <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/biggrin.gif">

(and you can always come back here and ask for help with anything you get stuck on!)

btw....Welcome to the Asylum! Meds are dispensed regularly, and some of the patients don't notice when you take their's and substitute M&M's instead <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/tongue.gif">

Watch out for Phil though, he'll try and slip you some Yanni if you're not careful!

A post for you, and everyone else who needs to ask:

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ANYTHING YOU BELIEVE IN....LEARN THE FRIGGIN' LANGUAGE

<img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Now..with that out of the way. try http://htmlgoodies.com for some great tips. It might seem tough in the beginning, but HTML makes sense after a bit..very simplistic language.

After all the world is overpopulated already with morons who don't understand what they do, but let software do it for them. I mean look how well MicroShaft does.

heh

hehe....Welcome. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/cool.gif">

By all means, learn HTML, it is important to you, and really not that hard at all. I wouldn't blame you if you started with an editor like Dreamweaver and then learned to modify the codes, that's OK too. If you use an editor like this, you'll soon find areas where the app just doesn't produce the effect you want, then you can dive into the code, and dreamweaver code ain't pretty but it's cleaner than most. I learned from using the "view Source" option on the browser, if someone did something cool that I wanted to do too, I looked at how they did it! Use this a lot, seeing working code is always a great learning aid!

Oh! Don't just copy someones page entire, people get funny about that. View the code to learn how they did it, and then use what you've learned. Word to the wise, heh heh.

I sound like a broken record here, but learn HTML. It is REALLY simple to learn. I knew nothing about programming (Still don't for that matter) when I learned HTML. Programs like Dreamweaver and Frontpage help to lay a good foundation for making a web page, but to really fine tune it and get it to be orginal and the way you want it, you will need to know HTML. Good luck, and have fun <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Asuming you really want to become a great web designer, after html, I suggest learning these "languages" in the following order:
1. css (not really a language, can be learned thoroughly in a few days to a week)
2. javascript
3. dhtml (which is really just css and js together, not much to actually learn)
4. cgi/perl

Oh yea, and don't forget the graphics work!

I'd recommend PHP over CGI with Perl. It offers some pretty impressive advantages, especially in Apache.

On MS webhosts, ASP would be a good alternative, although I'd still go with PHP <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

I have to agree with everyone else here. Learn HTML. It is very simple. I learned it just before I turned 12!!! Now, my time is more valuable, so I use Dreamweaver to write the bulk of my sites and then go and "hand edit" it. If you ever do want to move on to bigger and better things, go to www.webmonkey.com and use the JavaScript tutorial. If you like that, then you can buy the book that they recomend. Good luck and happy programming. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">
