Hi Doc and other fine people,

I am just wondering, I am looking to buy two books to spice up my knowledge in the area of Flash and Javascript. Does anybody have a good recommendation. I am looking for something that is good for beginners and also contains something that goes a bit deeper into the material.

Thanks,

PJ

Hmm I make these reccomendations a lot, so here goes
For Flash I think the best book out there is the Flash 4 Bible great resource.

For Javascript. For this board I would recommend the O'Reilly DHTML book (I can't remember the exact name right now) The O'reilly books are by far some of the best in the business. I suggest the DHTML book because these type books usually concentrate more on the kinds of effects most on this board are using JS for, they usually cover both CSS and JS fairly comprehensively so they make are usually great if you are on a budget and want a 2 fer 1.

I usually also recommend the Visual Quickstart Guide series of books. For people like me with short attention spans they get you started quickly in the right direction though you should also have a good "reference" type book as well.

Yas, I'd agree about the O'reilly book, and choosing the DHTML over straight Javascript book is also a good choice. I don't have any recommendations for Flash books, but the Bible series have always been good to me, hard to say.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies.
I was ,to tell you the truth, looking for books in the O'Reilly series. For Flash, I will have a look around, but if more people could give me a hint on this one I would be a happy camper

Cheers,

Yes! Yes! O'reilly! "JavaScript: The Definitive Guide," 3rd edition (or the latest one). Very good book. Unfortunately, it assumes that you already have some programming experience, but if you re-read and re-read, you should be able to figure it out anyway.

Definately the Flash 4 Bible. All of the bible books are excellent resources.

Photoshop Junkie:
Like everyone else I recommend the Flash Bible, the O'reilly books and anything in the Visual Quickstart Guide series. Also one of my favorites for Flash is Flash Web Design by Hillman Curtis. You can check out his website at www.hillmancurtis.com. I personally like that book.

Hi all,

Thanks again for all your replies, I have been looking at "Javascript the definitive guide" from O'Reilly and I must say I was impressed by it, so I bought it. For Flash I will be looking around. Again thanks,

Greetings,
