Actually these questions aren't very exciting, but I needed a title that would attract people!

Is it still possible to download FTP programs(Ipswich) for free? Its been a while since I did this so I forget how I accomplished this feat.

Also, my client would like to use some cool fonts. Is there a current list of browser compatible fonts somewhere?

Thanks.

I think Ipswitch makes WSftp? yeah you can still download the evaluation copies they have them at www.ipswitch.com or probably www.download.com.

After you download the eval copy, find out the version and put "WSFTP" in at www.astalavista.box.sk and see what you find

If you need help wiht that email me

Yah! Though that Asta La Vista place is something else, ain't it? I flipped out the first time I saw it, man oh man.

On a related front, I visited Napster for the first time with my newest machine at work, a win2000 pIII/600 with a 2 Mbit connection. GEEZ! I couldn't believe it, I wanted some Bjork? Here's every commercial thing Bjork has ever done, plus a bunch I never even *knew* she had done, plus 500 remixes of same. I left it running over the weekend, had to put *something* on that new hard drive! Still, I left that day, shaking my head, getting this much proprietary stuff for free *should* be illegal. Don't get me wrong, I love having that kind of access, but this just seemed wrong. My personal ethical quandary.

Inner me -> This seems WRONG!
Me -> Yah yah, I'll just download a gigabytes worth first...
Inner me -> This seems VERY WRONG!
Me -> Ooh! Look at all the live cuts!
Inner me -> This seems VERY VERY WRONG!
Me -> ...

Heh heh...

Hey No WAREZ here!
I simply posted a link to a search engine.

really... thats all..
I swear.

I got sick of the whole warez thing a long time ago, all I ever got was a lotta pictures of boobies.

But fortunately I work for a company that reviews software so we have a software library with over 500 titles that I can check out at any time. (talk about the fox in the henhouse)

As to Napster, yeah that just blew my mind the first time I used it though because of the legal issues there I have since switched to Gnutella.

You are right though, it is illegal to trade copyrighted material. The thing is though that the RIAA has to realize that the genie is out of the bottle and there is no cork. I have sooo much respect for Sean Fanning (the 19 year old that created Napster) he created the killer app of the new millenium. I just hope that he walks away with some good dough and a brite future (thank god he got incorporated before releasing the software thus saving him from the legal fallout)

I just want to know who these people are that defenders of Napster are saying download the music to evaluate it then buy it anyway. I have a hard time believing that most people who download the music go out and buy the albums, too. Why would I buy it if I can get it for free? If I need it on CD, I can burn my own.

I heard someone say that people still buy the albums because they want the cover art. I can honestly say I've never bought an album because I thought the pictures were pretty.

P.S. Doc, it's good to see another Bjork fan...most people I know don't like her stuff.

bjork is rad... i even used to have some of her stuff when she was an anarchist punker, but that's another story.

as for napster, feh. i'm one of those people that actually uses the internet to download a piece of music and demo it out. first off, i'm an audiophile of sorts, so i refused to rely on the mp3 format for my permanent audio--too crappy. i also don't have a cd burner, though that's not a problem really because i have tons of minidisc gear. and i collect books and music, so i want to have original pieces of music.. not some copy off the internet.

so yeah, some people out there actually do use napster in a "legal" manner.

Bitdamaged, dont try to talk your way outta this one... i said get outta here and I mean it! Your on a time out mister, no more posting for a solid 5 minutes after my post! Unfortunely Wes, there are some honest people out there that realize that we are stealing, because we really are, not that I am one of those honest people. I rationalize my mp3's by using Scour Exchange. The search results arent nearly as good but the overal apperience is cooler.

Lets not bash astalavista.box.sk
It was the very first site bookmarked on this machine, and the last one for that matter. It's the earliest site I can remember visting.

Anyways, although I don't support warez, I do use the links there, I've learned a lot from neworder.box.sk, and black.box.sk

And astalavista's search engine is useable to get proxies too (other people's IP's to hide behind while you do something you're not proud of).

Well, to be frank, I don't care either way what happens to Napster. (Although I should because it could impact other copyright decisions down the line.) If I had the connection and the time, I'd be collecting all sorts of music, but I would admit that I was breaking copyright law and not hide behind a thin argument like "Copyright doesn't protect the artist anyway--it protects the greedy studios who take most of the money." As if successful companies don't have the right to protection under the law.

But as for more important matters, I remember seeing Bjork on SNL when I was a kid and she was playing with the Sugar Cubes. Back then, I thought she was the cutest thing I'd seen since Scarlet from G.I. Joe.

She does a lot of that dreamy scottish type stuff in the background of Highlander. I like her stuff a lot. Bjork though, Bjork just rules, truly.

Aimee's stuff is great. It's cool that Magnolia was actually written around her music. Loreena McKennit has an amazing sound, it's reminiscent of Enya at times. Must be the fact that I'm Irish that does it for me. Bjork's still a little pixie goddess, in the Sugar Cubes or out. Ani kinda got soft,I miss the "Not a Pretty Girl" days. It's like Living In Clip signalled an end for her.

Tori make me wish I was a piano...heh

mbridge: These people are just great vocalists and musicians, no matter how thick, crunchy, heavy, you enjoy your music to be. Imagine Maynard from TOOL, or Chino Moreno from the Deftones. Amazing sound no matter what the layering.

Aimee Mann sings one, thats the only song of her's i like. Ill go ahead and say it now so all you people can look down on me, and frown and so on. My version of Photoshop 5.5 wouldn't exactly be refered to as legel. Im a 16 year old with no job, but even if i had a job, that payed like 7 dollers an hour, which is like the maximum a teenager can make in my area. (Im sorry, but fastfood restruants don't exactly pay.) What teenager has like 400 bucks to spend on Photoshop. Theres much more important things to spend 400 bucks on when you dont make any money (car speakers, amp, so on). But i can honestly say that if i had some money laying around, i would by it. (at least i dont speak wannabe hacker language)

Limp Bizcuit? WTF? Are you trying to get me to kick your ass? geez... I mean, what kind of bad crack do you have to be on to listen to Limp Bizcuit. They're possibly the worst band of this millenium (thats ever if you keep tract of that kind of thing). Not to mention they're sell-outs.. and failures of people/musicians. All Fred Durst does is bash other (and better) bands, then complains when they bash him back. Then he uses the fact that (because of conformists) he's CEO of interscope, to make the other bands look bad.

There's just some people who should be shot on the spot... then people like Durst who should be tortured, and fed piece by piece to wild monkeys.

Anyways, if anyone here likes Limp Bizcuit, ignore my post.

Tori, I like and respect (and ofcourse still have a crush on) but don't really care to listen to her much anymore.

nine inch nails had one good album (the 1st one of course) and that was it. Ever since then, trent reznor has sat and whined about the same shit for like 9 years in a row now. Slipknot -- forget it. Rage is just full of hit air. Metallica used to be a band.....

Tool kicks ass. Love tool.

Back to female singers though, my favorite is still Sinead Oconner....I mean I know she totally flip-flopped all over and her music bit the big one, but those 1st 2 albums are still great.

Right now I'm listening to G Love and Special Sauce.
