I know this is a dumb question, but I'm curious. Are you a real doctor or is it just a handle you use? How did you come up with it? Was it given to you by someone you know?

Actually, the show was "The State", the skit was Barry and Levon, and the skit was "$240 worth of Puddin'", not Kids in the Hall

Hah! Actaully, "Dr. Thaddeus Ozone" started life as a comic book character I created back in 1992, no fooling. When I got my first internet account in 1993, and knowing that the internet was nothing more than a big joke, I used his name for my nick. Over the years I've had to re-absorb the good doctor (who was an evil son of a bitch back then!) I've since registered "Thaddeus Ozone" as a legal persona, if I still had a bank account in the states I could accept checks made out in his name (my name!) Several folks bitched about the "Doctor" part, typically folks who had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for their moniker. I became an authorized Minister of the Universal Life Church (free! See www.ulc.com ), making it the Reverend Thaddeus Ozone, and then spent an aditional $20 to get my honorary Doctorate of Divinity, hence the "Dr. Thaddeus Ozone".

SO! Yes, I am a real doctor! And No! I did not spend a $250,000 and eight years like a jackass just to get a cool name. Sorry if I just called anyone I know a jackass, but don't you feel *silly*?

LOL! 'Reverend Thaddeus Ozone' I can only imagine what the services would be like! Good story behind the name though. Do you have any remnants of the comic book? That would be cool to see.

Actually, I think there's a few scetches scattered around the older ozone pages.

f1_error:

Its funny you mention Penny Arcade. Just the other day, I received an email from someone asking a similar question about my moniker. I'm actually not involved in Penny Arcade, but with with a gaming community called GameKey, Inc. as a graphic artist (ed. note: see http://www.gamekey.com/corporate if you're curious for some reason). Since I too am in the gaming community (as a pseudo-artist also) along with Penny Arcade, it was presumed, as you did, that I was one and the same person. I hadnt even known about him until a few months ago, and by that time, I had been using my nickname for... oh, going on 6 years I guess

So no, He and I are different guys, although our name origins are very similar I would assume. I also took my name from Tycho Brahe, the 16th century Danish astronomer whose accomplishments my father used to relate to me as points of interest, and whose stories are among the more interesting of many historical figures of that time. Of particular interest is a story of a careless duel played with swords, in which the front portion of his nose was lopped off. For the rest of his days, he wore a shaped silver prosthetic, held on by small straps wrapped snugly around his pride stricken head.

An interesting man indeed, to learn more about him visit http://www.nada.kth.se/~fred/tycho.html
or simply enter "Tycho Brahe" or "Tyge Brage" (the old world spelling of Tycho) in any major search engine. In truth, I took the name more to honor my father than anything else, for he was the one who instilled in me the interest in such things.

Gah! I ramble. Anyways... there's a little history about both of our names, and probably way more info than you ever could have wanted to read

Oh, and I dont think the name itself is that common as an internet alias... I very rarely see it, or variations thereof, online.

A little clearer?

've got a good scan of the very first appearance of Doctor Ozone, a mini comic, about 2" x 3". I'll turn it inot a small display soon, it's already digitized into a nice little photoshop file, ready to go.
