... i am able to continue to fuel my expensive drug habit.

seriously though, i had my meeting today with the art gallery concerning the design some of you might have seen earlier.

we settled on 2000$ for the design and a 360$ monthly fee to just keep an eye on the site and make an update once a month when there's a new exhibit.

my non-linear video editing gear is so close.. thank you guys for all your help!!! this was such a splendid day indeed, yeehaw.

well i told them it took me 47 hours to build the site, and i was charging them 50$ an hour.. but i cut them a deal at 40 hours (2000$) to be nice.

in all honesty, i think i spent 20 hours designing it.. and another 20 hours stressing over the design and stuff.

oh yeah, i should mention this is my first paying job ever doing web design.. i've made girls happy, i've gotten paid in weed, i've done if for fun, but never before have i got actual money.. wow.

Truly, there is nothing more flattering than being given a pile of money for your work. Pats on the back, six packs of beer, a roll in the hay, did you get those things because they liked you, or for your design work? With money, there's no doubt, it's for your work. Congratulations Mikey! (All those other things are good too! Try to swing deals that provide both. :-)

$50/hour is not too bad, and you did right to charge for all the time stressing about the design. Big businesses would call that "R&D" or something. I usually pick an arbitrary number, like 60 hours for a basic site design with all the usual bells & whistles, not counting anything too bizarrely extreme. (Big flash movies or DHTML scroll bars would be considered extreme, and worthy of extra hours IMHO.)

When a design really clicks, I can spend maybe 8 hours in Photoshop designing the look, and then another 4-8 hacking it apart and building templates, and then another 3 days adding all the content and making it look nice. That last part usually takes the longest time, especially if there is lots of content, hard to make that look pretty!

Again, big congrats to the Milkster, you deserve it!

that's cool mikey....that means you've got enough dough to bring the weed for the ozonecon right?

I was just thinking about that DL-44... since obviously we wont be able to bring weed from home.. (stupid customs) What are people like me gonna do about our *problem*? Sure, if we had it at F1's house, that would make for less cops and such, and more space away from cops But where would we buy it?

Hmmph... Just a stupid thought I was thinking

Ditto on the stress part. You should certainly get paid for that. The design can't be completed without it. It's all part of the creative process. If it weren't, then companies would just do it themselves. It takes time to come up with something from scratch and that time should be paid for.

alright.. gotta meet with these guys in a day to settle some final stuff and get the goods.

i forgot to mention that i'm getting them to buy me a brand new scanner for my house also, isn't that great? haha.

uhm, you can watch me tweak the site @ www.zerominuszero.net/stremmel/ for a week or two probably. it should be up at stremmelgallery.com, though you can go there now and check out their old design.

i've been thinking of trying to specialize in site design for art galleries, institutes, and museums, or something... i mean, stick to a certain group and really build a reputation.

oh well, who knows.. i'm just some stinky art major.
