Were gonna perform Camel Walk, by Southern Culture on the skids. For the school talent show. Anyone got any sites for a beginner to get started? Hey that reminds me, did you guys ever see the episode of Saturday Night Live where Will Feral is in a yoga class and manages to suck his own *%&$ after 3 years of practicing? That was pretty damn funny....laughed my ass off.

oh, and try the music stores...basic guitar books are quite cheap. Or the library. Or do a search on the internet. Or just beat cluelessly on the strings like most bands today do <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/wink.gif">

mel bay (or maybe 'melbay') guitar books are where they usually start kids... it's a good place if you've never played guitar i guess.

honestly it's a bunch of shit trying to learn from a book though and you might be better off sinking money into like 1 hour lessons a week, which is even not a lot.

good luck, guitar is righteous if you can get it going... after almost 6 years of playing guitar, i'm selling off all of my equipment for pretty good money actually.

gave up on guitar, but the visual stuff is the next step instead. so it's alright.

Reve.....

Despite of playing around with the net, I play guitar a lot. I'm not a profesional guitarist, though, and I would never be. I just love it and playing guitar makes you different from others who never try to work their hands on the fret- board. And the peak of it is you will be able to jam and play some Pearl Jam's or Metallica'z (or whatever it is).
Personally, I think books would help rather than the web. It worked for me, and it will work for you too. I taught myself to play guitar using a simple guitar chord book 5 years ago and the result were impressive. Some advices and readings would also help. Don't just learn the chords; learn to sing while you play. Don't forget to learn some basic scale.

Yeah what delphi said. Harmony central is a great resource:

Especially the guitar tab page: http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/tab.html

Learn to read tab quick it's the easiest way to learn stuff without music training. Then pick a few easy songs that you have on CD or MP3 (I like MP3 cuz I can loop individual songs or make wavs where I can loop parts) and learn those.
