I'll have to look up the name of my favorite JavaScript book when I go home this weekend. But, probably the best place to get the latest information on JavaScript is right from the horses mouth:
http://developer.netscape.com/docs/manuals/communicator/jsref/contents.htm .

There is also similar page at MircoSoft the describes their personal implementation of JavaScript. I just don't have the URL for it since I don't consult it as much.

you mean there is a good one? the most popular javascript book on wpts was the JavaScript Bible by Danny Goodman. i have it and i dont think its that great. i mean.. it looks like its a good ref book and all.. a lot of the stuff in the version i have has been phased out (who uses ns2/ie2? not to mention that ie3 is rarely used). it also doesnt cover ie5.

i have the 3rd edition, which covers js 1.2

the javascript bible is another good one, yet it is *very* netscape based. i find that there is a lot of un-needed things in there too.

the definitive guide is the best book on js that i have seen so far. good leanring tool and reference book.

Jackal:

I suggest checking out the Gurus Network. Theres a list of books there. Im still a big fan of the Visual Quickstart Guide series especially for people starting out. There JavaScript book is pretty good. Ive never read Javascript the Definitive Guide but I remember somone in this forum saying it was good. It could have been from when we were gathering together the books for Gurus Network. Yeah, la'dsasha is right, the JavaScript Bible is a better reference book but it can still be useful. Of course that is probably the pricest JavaScript book your going to find. Didnt that guy from HTML goodies also make a javascript book? You might wanna check out javagoodies.com, I think its something like that. Havent been there in a while though. Thats where I learned all about HTML and JS <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Perhaps Slime might have some better ideas though. He is the local dHTML wiz around here.

That first one that timothymcnulty mentioned up there, Javascript: The Definitive Guide (3rd edition) by David Flanagan, is the one I learned from, and is *excellent* - it explains everything and has a huge reference section on the entire language. Unfortunately, it's not really easy to follow if you've never programmed in any language before. Nonetheless, I would *strongly* recommend it for any JavaScript programmer. Go to http://www.oreilly.com , they're the publishers.
