In a dashing repeat of history, The Free preview Eye Candy 4000 series Photoshop plugins (http://www.alienskin.com/) are the worst plugins I have ever used since the first edition of the much maligned filter set. If you had any thoughts of downloading their preview, just back away. Slowly, slowly, back away.

I was actually in a series of negotiations with the guys from AutoDesk way back in '96 or so to create a series of photoshop filters. If you think about it, knowing what we know about the basics of photoshop, wouldn't it be cool to actually build filters that allowed you the same control as we have now doing things the old fashioned way, but as a streamlined tool? The deal with AutoDesk fell through, but if it had gone on there would probably be a series of Ozone-filters available today. Truth is, if I actually knew a programmer who could program those things properly, I'd be open to trying to do a series of new filters that really worked the way I thought they should. The problem with most of these 3rd party packages is that they are not created by anyone with any real artistic flare, just by programmer types who do shit because they can. Hrmph. (Thanks for the heads up on the new eye candies, though! :-)

Well I may be just the man for you in about 2 years. I'm currently figuring out my IDIM degree (individually designed interdepartmental major) in the areas of 2d studio arts (drawing, painting, photography), mathematics, and graphics programming. Should be one helluva degree when I'm done.

Pardon my naiveté, but are some Actions, rustic country cousins to NYC filters

Yah, actions could be considered country cousins to full blow filters. Filters will usually have their own series of contraols and previews to allow more configurability. Jiblet, we'll have to hook up on this one, learn what's needed to program filters! I'm thinking just one to start, a sort of combination of lighting effects and a "mask builder" for the creation of really good 3D effects simply. This could be something for everybody, when I think of filters, I think of filters that *I* would use, that's always best. Good luck to you, sounds like a killer program you've created!

I do believe that some coding sites have beginners tutorials up for programing Photoshop Plugins. Maybe we could get our esteemed Slime to look at them?

Huh? What? If you're suggesting I program something, let me tell you that the only language I know except for JavaScript is Visual Basic (5.0); I've tried making graphical applications with it, it's way too hard... I need to learn C++ or Java some day.

Well I know a fair amount of both C/C++ and Java but I know I dont know how to program a plugin like that. Im fairly sure I could actually make the program but I dont have a clue how to actually intergate it into Photoshop ...

Hi Doc,

I am a computer programmer. I have been playing around with learning how to program Photoshop plug-ins for the last six or seven months.

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of spare time to work on new projects, but, I am a damn good programmer and would be interested in discussing the projects you had in mind for plug-ins.

If you want to know more about my credentials as a programmer take a look at my resume on http://hyperbole-software.com/ .

By the way: skaarjj could you please post the URLs or the sites you mentioned that give tutorials on writing plug-ins?

Sorry,

I mis-typed my url in the previous message and even though I can change the label, I can't seem to change the address that it points to.
So here it is again. Let's hope I spell it right this time:
