Hey guys here's a tasty one for you to solve out! Check out this picture http://rocsport.com/images/pics/etusivu/nostot/cykelfestival_1.gif and let me know how to do that! You can also check out http://www.rocsport.com because the whole page is done using that kind of style.

Thanks!

Ok, take your image and put it on your first layer. Take your airbrush and set it to dissolve and sprey over the sides of the image where the grey is on that image. That should give you the look your looking for.

I'm no Photoshop expert so I don't know a great way to duplicate the effect, however I did notice something help full if you look at all the pictures on the page all the ones that are the same size (skater, deee hoota and the sunset one) are all the same in the border. I am assuming that like most big sites these guys have a set of standard image sizes. Then they probably just have a mask set up to create the border.

How to get that effect on the mask though, I have no idea

That mask is actually pretty easy to make. Oh wait lol, I just noticed Jestah already posted the technique is was going to suggest. Nevermind, this post is worthless.

All the images seemed posterized a little too, but that may just be an artifact of dropping them down to a limited number of colors. I tried it with a series of scan lines built into it, it worked OK. For me, I saved that black and white pixelated bit as a channel and used it as a transparency mask (using export gif89, not save as web)

Even much more simple than that is to use a 2 layer document. Your bottom layer will be your image. (In my example I used the Ozone graphic located at the top of the screen)
The second layer was a radial gradient set to Forgound to transparent. I then set the second layer to disolve.

You coud use the air brush instead of the gradient, or text, or a paintbrush, etc...

Hope one of these ideas helps.

Of course I could read what Jestah said first. But I think you might be getting confused as to setting the airbrush to disolve. What both Jestah and myself mean is set the Layer to disolve.

I'm sure Jestah meant what he said - spray gray with the airbrush set to dissolve. It works. Making the photo a layer above a gray background, making a feathered selection and deleting, then setting to dissolve works too. So many options!!!

Thanks guy's for helping me out here!

Hey I got the info how those pictures are really made of! They did like using a real copying machine, paper, tape all kinds of natural stuff and then import it to computer it's hard to explain...

I'll test it and when I'm done I'll put the results here!
