Not that I know of. But there is with the brush. Select a brush that draws a line height you want (probably one of the smallest, hard edged brushes). Double click the brush size icon in the brushes palette (NOT the brush tool in the tool bar), and adjust the spacing setting larger. Leave size and hardness alone. The sense of smoothness when you paint with a brush is because Photoshop lays down overlapping copies of the chosen brush shape. If you set the spacing wider, they no longer connect, so you get the dotted effect.

A quick way to draw a straight line (dots or no) is to click once with the brush tool at the point of origin of your line, and then SHIFT CLICK where you want the line to end: Photooshop connects the dots!

Works with any of the paint tools. This is really useful with the clone tool if you need to get rid of straight line scratchs in a photo.

Hey nice one Steve!

Arrow-heads are on the Line-tool options.
Select pencil - shift+N for the line tool. Press 'Enter' to bring up the options.

Cool.

Use paths. Stroke it once for a regular line, then do it like Steve said, but with the eraser. When you use the eraser, adjust the spacing on the brush being used. If you don't like it, just undo and try again. Does that make sense?

Odd, really. I saw a graphic on a poster about a week ago and I have been thinking about this since. Asking about this has given me a real excuse to try it for myself. So... here is a quick, dirty, cheap and sleazy example:

I used a selection of text and turned it into paths with that one button on the paths palette. First stroke was with a brush with a diameter of 3 and spacing of 25% (the second smallest brush). The second stroke was with a brush with a diameter of 6 and spacing of 250%.

Anybody care to write a tutorial?
