Preserved Topic: Out of server space - AGAIN... sigh. (Page 1 of 1)

OK, I had to purge 5 FTP areas, but I gained another three MB of space doing so. I'm just shaking right now, what am I going to do about this? Are my days at VISI going to come to an end? Will I end up ike PHONG, or will something else work out? Sorry for pissing and moaning at y'all, but I am just SO frantic about this. More later.

i've got spare space on my server too.. but only like 20mb probably and i don't know if i would be allowed to support massive bandwidth use (dreamhost), but let me know if that'd help at all..

Hey Doc, I got like 40megs or so I can store some stuff for you if you need it. I can actually give more out but thats probably plenty.

If worse comes to worse, we can move old posts somewhere else, instead of archiving them. Maybe we can avoid deleting them if we just put them on someone's hard drive somewhere, and then if someone needs an old one they can ask for it... but that's kind of a stretch. I'd hate to delete them (I've needed old ones myself occasionally), but if we have to, then...

I thought I heard the Doc mention something about a server that he just purchased? Maybe not. (Damn voices!)

just curious how much server space you have? I thought I had read somewhere that you had been moved to a dedicated server way back at VISI.....is that not the case?

If your business venture turns out well you should build your own ISP company and host your own stuff!

It's a good news that almost everyone here wants to help to keep this site go on, and on, and on. But I think you have a better idea, Doc. I must agree with DL-44. Heh, been there, done that. It was kind of fun at first, but *hugely* expensive to operate and the margins were razor thin; hard to make money (or even make ends meet!) in a biz like that. My long term goal is to set up an Incubator shop, with big bandwidth, lots of heavy hardware, and work spaces for those trying to start their own firms, be involved with a new firm. Of course, there would have to be a coffee house included, receptionist and security for the door, an 'open' lab for newbies to practice, and did I mention big bandwidth and a ton of heavy hardware? :-) I need a few million dollars to set this up properly, I'm working on that aspect now. ;-)

I appreciate all of the offers for temporary hostings, but it may be too awkward to work out properly, so much of my site is so intertwined, I really need is all in one place. I thought of spinning the "backgrounds" section off to it's own URL, but then I realized that many of my pages simply call the needed backgrounds from there, if I move it the pages don't work! I'm staying home sick today, caught Malin's cold, and I'll try and contact the SysAdmin at VISI this afternoon. They really have made a lot fo special considerations for me, moved me over to my own dedicated machine and all, no payments asked for, but things are awkwward there now as we've sold the company to DSL.net out of Massachusets. If I can't work anything out, I'll see what I can do with the Jarvis Network down in Texas, they've offered me the free space and server, and they have the bandewidth needed. More on this as it happens, the OZONE will not go down!

Doc, just curious whats going on. Personally that Jarvis Network offer sounds very appealing, especially with the buyout of VISI. Although Im not familiar with Jarvis at all.
