I just read about a new 3D-thingie shown at Comdex, which enabled you to see 3D without the red-green glasses. It also enabled you to somewhat interact with the floating image before you.

Were anyone of you guys there?
Did you have a chance to see it?
Was it as awesome as it sounds?

William Gibson - here we go!

I don't think we are going to be seeing Rei or her thermos anytime soon. Calling on William Gibson at this point is just a little premature.

However 3D holograms is a very cool begining.

yeah, I guess...

The gibson-note was more for a larf than anything else, but it's a first step anyway.

This is still probably one of the coolest things i've read about since the 3D-printer.

hmmm.... I missed that one. I only went for one day though. I was dissapointed I didn't win anything really cool like an MP3 player.

One note: Adobe had no presence at Comdex this year and I guess they weren't there last year either. I was sad, I wanted to ask some questions about 6.0 and maybe catch a demo. Oh well, it was still fun.

Nim - thanks. I learned a new verb tonight - "to fab"

Jeez, guess "fab" doesn't apply to the Beetles any more!

You guys read Neal Stephenson? "Snow Crash"? He had a human/computer interface going that was way more approachable than Gibson's. High bandwidth via fiber optic, VR display via goggles, interaction on the 'net via avatars - hell, we're just about there now! We're sure a whole lot closer to Stephenson's vision than Gibson's. And you just *have* to love a book who's main character is a samurai-sword- wielding, motorcycle-riding, pizza-delivering guy named Hiro Protagonist!!!! If you haven't read it, you *need* to!

Hmmmm, now I got myself interested in re-reading "Snow Crash". What a great book... Got a long weekend coming up. Hope it rains!

steve: hiro was a wuss, YT is where it's at... the girl of my dreams, seriously.

stephenson is a better writer than gibson in my opinion. i am somewhat well read with both authors and it's my feeling that gibson's quality has tapered off, then again i feel he just never reached the level of neuromancer again. stephenson on the other hand has shown the ability to consistently provide intriguing stories that are developed well and even thoughtful.

as soon as i finish this vonnegut stuff over the week i'm going to to dive into stephenson's 'cryptonomicon.'

It was basically a holographic image...and very realistic!

Of course, there were a ton of things to see there. I went for two days and that was -so- not enough time...and I was there from moment of open till end.

My feet -still- hurt. =(

Cryptonomicon was a fun read, some funny parts any computer nerd will really appreciate. Which reminds me that my ex still has my hardcover of that book. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/mad.gif">

Anyway, on topic i have an asus card with the 3d glasses and I've found they are too much to wear for long periods of time, but they make the blood splashes oh so neat.
