It's a trivial thing, but it's driving me nuts.

Normally in 98, when you bring up the Display properties, you have the option to set you desktop image to Center, Tile, or Stretch. Well I all of a sudden have lost the Stretch option...but any picture I want to center is automatically stretched....
The streetch option is NOT greyed out...it's just not there.

can anyone tell me how to correct this?

Hey DL
did you change lately something about your desktop settings??? like:
-A new Driver for the monitor/vga card (and thus changing the settings in the registry??)
-Some new program???
-How big is the picture?

this is where i would look
an i would try to load an different pic to the background what happens then??

how about your resolution and colour bit settings?.. maybe some of these resolutions or colour depths arent supprted by your video card or your monitor and thus remove the stretch option?..

just thinking out loud!

the ONLY thing that has changed any time recently is that I played around with a couple of the desktop themes for a few minutes....but I don't know if the stretch was gone before that or not.
My color and resolution settings have not changed, nor have any drivers.

I have changed back any changes that I did make.....I'm going out of mind over this stupid thing....

oh, and it makes no difference the size of the picture....any size is effected the same way. Thanks for the respponses though guys.

yeah, I know....I just got bored one day and started looking through some of them to see if there were any parts of any of them I could use.....but nope
but now that I think about it, that was after I discovered the problem...because the only reason I did it was that I saw the icon in the control panel while I was trying to fix the problem.....arrrrggggghhhhh I hate windows

I am in no way sure about this but doesn't that stretch option along with desktop themes part of Microsoft Plus! ? I have Win98 and I don't have the stretch option but I know on Win95 if you wanted it you had to load Plus! Do you remember if you have that program? Just a thought.

Yes I do....I just thought that was '98 feature though. either way, I had the option...now I don't -- but any picture I set as my background automatically stretches.

ah well.....I'll just have to keep poking around. Thanks guys.

Actually one off the differents between win98 and win95 is plus.

Win95 + plus! + some other gadgets + some newer drivers + some new bugs =win98
hah...

yeah, that's about it rins...especially the new bugs part.

well anyway...I found it. I ahd inadvertantly disabled the active desktop (a funtion of the Tweak UI - a part of the plus package incorporated into 98).
It was such a small checkbox in such a cluttered area that I missed it the first few times I looked through it.

Thanks again for the responses guys....gonna go get those glasses I've been needing for a while now

If something happens all of a sudden like that in windows 98. You can always got back to a previous registry setting by booting to Safe mode Comand prompt only and typing: "scareg /restore" A utility will run that will list some dates. you just select one that is prior to your problem and execute. Hard Part is by default you only have about 5 days if happen farther back than that then you just have to figure out what changed or start over in some cases.
