OK, I'm working on flash, and have been poring over this guys site PRAYSTATION. Whoa, what an awesome site, so many little cool things he's done, using a combination of math and shockwave flash, for some totally awesome effects. One of the cooler things he does is allow folks to download the .fla files so you can see how it's done! Except for the toy at http://www.PRAYSTATION.com/antiweb/05-19-00/ - this of course is the one I hope to emulate. Anyone else having any luck doing stuff like this? We need a heavier flash/mathmatician guru here, heh. Check this out anyway, you'll be pleased you did!

Doc, if you love Praystation, Josh also did http://once-upon-a-forest.com

He is truly amazing with Flash, and the work he's doing these days with Kioken http://www.kioken.com
is quite impressive as well.

Good development resources at: http://www.moock.org/webdesign/flash/
and http://www.zincroe.com/flash/
I have this alternating desire to nail Flash and give up. I get inspired by Praystation and the like - but it's such a committment - learning it well enough to be expressive, chosing compatibility between 3,4 & 5, modifying and updating them ... scares me.

BTW, Doc...if you follow the Thomas Knoller link on that praystation page http://www.typospace.com/v3/root.html
You'll find what was the inspiration for the spinning text thing you're looking at...and if you click download while there, you can get the .fla source <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/wink.gif">

Did anyone happen upon http://www.PRAYSTATION.com/antiweb/05-19-00/
I thought that was a great effect. BTW Steve, your absolutely right. You see sites like Praystation, and Once Upon a Forest, and you immediately want to open Flash and design a whole site in it.... then the realization hits me that I suck at trying to accomplish anything in a vector graphic program. Not to mention the fact that they serve to remind me that I'm not an artist and can't even hand draw a good stick figure. Also, I don't know about the rest of you, but some people's ideas of putting different things in motion on different levels and having them all come together and look great, well their brains obviously work on a different level than mine. It leaves me awe struck every time I see a good one.

How embarassing, I ment http://www.PRAYSTATION.com/antiweb/02-18-00

Kinda reminded me of the Visual Thesaurus project:

Though the Visual Thesaurus was created using Thinkmap?...

I have noticed that rotating background on a few pages, http://www.typospace.com/v3/root.html has an intersting one that not only rotates but you can drag the rotating elements and then rotate the entire system. Very similar to http://www.safeplaces.net/sp.htm when the clouds first load they spin like that but are draggable elements afterward.

For the typospace menu If you click on 'download' in the top right corner you can get the entire .fla file sent to you via e-mail.

I'm addicted to safeplaces.net When I get to that place where the earth breathes, with that giant gong, It's friggin awesome.

I also liked once upon a forest. Some of those months were friggin hilarious!

Thanks guys. I wish all web sites were like those. Bookmarked in stone!

Doc: I'm not sure which effect on the page you are trying to reproduce. If I were going to try to make that effect, I would map the text to a sphere using spherical coordinates and allow the movements of the the various pieces of text to be controlled by the sphereical coordinates. It is then a simple matter to map the spherical coordinates to Cartesian coordiantes. He seemes to be using the Z-component to control the size/brightness of each peice of text.

Finally, there is a simple matrix transform that will map the 3D-Cartesian coordiantes to a 2D-Perspective coordinate system, but, I don't have space to write it in this margin.

I hope that helps.

To get the place where the earth breathes and the big shroom gong swings in the wind I think you have to play the birds song on the flowers, I have only done it twice and it took me quite awhile to mess around with it. But just to find it was sooooo damn cool, I like how the mushroom on the left runs away from you too...What an amazing job they did with that one...

Ditto Moaiz. I also like the computer room hidden in the tree that you can turn on and off, and that little pixi dude that pops up in different places. Have you clicked on the guy's body parts?
