Hello All,
I just wanted to get some *professional* opinons. My scanner just quit on me. It was an old HP 5p SCSI that I picked up awhile ago. I was deeply in love with it as it had everything I needed and was quick. Its loss has shattered my very reason for living and I need to find a replacement before I am pushed over the edge into the deep abyss of insanity (looks like I've come to the right place aye??).

I've looked around the local computer stores but I have to say that consumer scanners now a days are cheap pieces of plastic that aren't worth a dime. I've looked online but websites don't really offer any views into their software packages. HP's software was awesome I thought, but the new USB scanner software I've looked at is horrible! You can't tweak anything!

Does anyone have any ideas on a high end consumer grade scanner? (Brand,Model) I'm looking for a SCSI model with 1200x1200 optical and good software. I can't afford a professional model. Has anyone tried a scanner with a FireWire interface? I hear they are twice as fast as a comparable SCSI model.

One more thing...on scanners with a resolution of something other than 1x1 (say 1200x600) Wouldn't the image come out distorted if printed on a printer with 1x1 resolution?

Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

I recently purchased a scanner... it's a Xerox scanner. Xerox makes top quality scanning/copying products, so I figured it would be great, and so far I have nothing to complain about... except that it takes 10 minutes to copy one page! Then again, it isn't a giant copier like we have at the office, so I guess 10 minutes is pretty good. And printing is fine because the thing is a scanner/copier/printer, so it prints what it scans! <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

i'd recommend my new scanner, but it's a little different than what you want...

so instead, check out:

that'd a link to zdnet's scanner reviews, it's a pretty good resource and i haven't found them to be inconsistent yet.
